Minnows are smaller. Shiners are better for bass, but if you want big ones, catch them yourself.

This brings up a thought I shouldn't have when discussing Crescent lake with you. I would try to catch your own bait from Crescent and use that as bait for the bass. Now the Mudfish will still hit them also. But a Bobber and a Shiner/Bluegill would also be a good choice. If you buy them, make sure you get at least the large ones. They will survive longer, and have more action. If you have a cast net, chum a area fist or even overnight, and then catch them up. I always prefer to use artificials, but do use shiners some especially when fishing with my dad, since that's his prefferred method of bassin.

start throwing hog feed in the same spot at the same time for a couple days, they'll find the spot and after awhile they'll flock to this spot just to feed, thats when you throw the net.
