Default Question about night fishing

My friend asked me to go night-fishing with him this weekend. We will fish from a dock located on rideau canal system.

This is what it looked at first:

This is now:

Just wondering if I should work on the open water area for LM and SM. What kind lures should I use for this kinda "open" water? Does Jitterbug or buzzbait still work well on the open water?

Also I believe I should fish under the lock for sure. What kind plastic do you want to use, size and color?

BTW, What is the right bait for crappie at night? I believe there are reasonable size crappie down the lock.

I appreciate your help. We do need catch fish at his first night-fishing to show there is not just mosquito down there
