Suspending crankbait

How do you make a crankbait suspend?

tie a string from the ceiling and tie the CB onto it..

if it is a sinking CB,forget it
if a floater,use suspendots or strips.

Yep-suspend dots or strips is the best way to go.

Its easier to buy suspending models.As Reb said, suspend strips, or the dots will help.Figure out what the warmest water temperature, the water you will be fishing will most likely be. Fill a 5 gallon bucket with the same water temperature and then test the cranks by dropping them in after you have added the suspend dots and adjust them to the temp.The key is to not have them stay on bottom, but rise at a slow rate, with the bait sitting as level in the water as you can get it to.Take a sharpie pen write the temp you set the bait to suspend in, grab another bait to set at that temp., or a can of colder water and change the water temperature say at least 5 degrees. Adjust the next bait for that temperature.I hope this helps. P N J

But when it is in the water how do you make it suspend?Do you just pull up or what?

Austin, after adding the proper amount of suspend dots on a floating crankbait it will suspend by itself. What I mean by the proper amount, is enough weight (because suspend dots are thin pieces of lead) that keep the bait in a stationary position. A suspending crankbait is great for fish that aren't really in a mood to strike. By getting the bait to the fish and have the bait sit stationary, only moving it by quick jerks to represent an injured fish, you can possibly catch a few big fish. But it is easier to buy suspending baits and tweak them with the dots or strips.
