Default LSU Rebuild

I built this rod earlier this year only to have it returned to me in Sept and broke: http://www.bassfishin.com/bassfishin...ight=lsu+build
The story goes that he lifted a #3 and it snapped 8" back between the guides.

But I feel like I did the guy's wife just with the new one and dolled it up a little for her. She seemed very pleased. I hope she keeps it away from the rod breaking villain.

Something I did come on by accident I thought was cool was reversing the check in to the reel seat.

The rod breaks swinging a 3# bass into the boat and it's the rod's fault? I can imagine sticking a hand on the rod about halfway up to do that and SNAP! Whatever the case, you are a good man to stand behind your product after being told how it was broken, because it sure does NOT sound like a defect in materials or workmanship to me.

Looks awesome as always Curado. And I agree with boogie, that was not the rods fault that it broke. I read somewhere that if a rod doesn't break on the first half dozen or so cast' and doesn't break on the first fish but breaks later on that it was almost certainly damaged in some way, although probably unknowingly by the owner. Something as simple as a bullet weight tapping the blank while running down the lake can cause weak spots, or at least that is the theory I read a while back.

Boat flipping 3lb fish is definitely user error...But some people never learn.

The rod looks great Bubba!...You've been spitting out some really work!...Love the holoshimmer in the tiger wraps!~

I rebuilt it, but it wasn't for free. The broke rod showed signs off being knocked around and not too well kept. If the rod would have broke directly at a guide due to being wrapped too tight or the reel seat spun,a then I would have ate it. But it showed a lot of knocks up and down the blank and I honestly do not think I contributed to breaking it. I don't think the fish did if, but I was meaning it was the straw on the camel's back. And I do not advocate swinging fish on a slow dead lift either though with lighter rods.

Hey Bubba Good looking rod. A long time ago I had a nice rod snap right at the hook hanger so I started removing them and drilling a hole in the trigger like this. Is this tacky or in any way bad for anything. Breaking rods aside I didn't like scruffing up my rods.

The rod turned out great Bubba. Hopefully the missus will take better care of it than he did. Nice work.

I did the same thing with all of my old Extremes. It works good.

I don't like hook keepers on my personals either. I go to the reel or guide frame, not the eye. I have an American Rodsmith with the same keeper style. I like it, just light sand any burrs. I has a good blister the first tine fished with it. Reel seats are usually solid so I don't think it would hurt anything. Watch you hand picking up rods with trebles too. They like to hang in carpet too being off the rod.

I hope that rod breaks again in a rematch with a 3 pounder.

The mere presence of a hook keeper won't cause a blank failure. More likely the blank was accidentally scored when wrapping it on. If you just don't like keepers on the blank your alternative is fine.

Agreed- as I examined the break later it looked like months of being tapped by jigs etc had damaged the blank.
