Default Live bait question

I recently bought a minnow trap for the creek in my back yard to get some live bait. I get creek chubs anywhere from 2-6 inches and sometimes I'll get both small and large crawfish. I usually throw out a couple of lines with live bait while I throw artificial. The only problem is I'm not catching any fish using these creek chubs, I've only caught a huge alligator snapping turtle. The water I fish is a small neighborhood pond that produces some quality fish(the specs of the ponds are in my other thread if that helps at all). I know how productive live bait can be so I was just wondering what I'm doing wrong. The larger chubs get a 1/0 baitholder hook while the smaller ones get either a size 1 or 2 baitholder. I put a small split shot weight about 8 inches from the hook and have a bobber about 2 feet from the bait. I hook the bait either below the dorsal fin or through the bottom lip and out the nostril. Am I doing something wrong? Any input would help, thanks.

I have used bream two feet under a bobber hooked in the tail while I fished artificial. I haven't had a problem with turtles although there are plenty. I caught a seven pounder on one occasion. I had to throw down the outfit I was fishing to grab the live bait outfit. It was hectic for a moment.

Sounds like you're rigging up pretty good, just a couple of things.........use the lightest line you think you can get away with, maybe #8 in the structureless pond and #12 in the other. Might try losing the sinker and use the smallest float that you can or none at all.
***also tip toe up to these ponds and be quiet.***

Are you fishing a pond or the stream? have you ever gone without the bobber?
