what (in your opinion) is the BEST reel?

ok guys, i gotta make my choices today. im sticking to the st.coix rod, about 15 megabass lures, 5 challenger lures, 10 rapalas, 5 bags of plastics from assalt, a spinnerbait with a few blades from secretweapon lures, 5 bags of alluring baits, and 5 bags of pourboys plastics. that just leaves the reel. i can have any reel, regardless of price. value doesntt matter either. just the best. not bang for buck, but the best reel i can possibly get. by the way, my dad and i had a talk and we cant change the agreement, since im not old enough for a boat, and i already have an ugly stik and avocet, with a cardinal reel and an avocate reel.

for now, mi thinking stella, but some people think differnetly...

If your talking spinning reels,The very best that will put you above the normal reels is the Van Staal reel.They are made from the very finest materials, built to last a lifetime and it looks like no other run of the mill spinning reel either. Dang it Doc, I thought about it and I cannot mislead you like that. Look at the line capacity of the smallest spinning reel that make. You would either splice the spool to a backing line or buy the 1/4 lb spools of line. Walmart seels them in Stren, Berkely, Yo Zuri brands ranging from $5.29- $13.00 a spool. If your like Zooker, you already buy them in the 5,000+ yard spools. P N J

The Daiwa SS is, IMO, the best reel on the market for the money.

Rock solid. Comes in many sizes and is very durable.

I spend a lot of money on certain fishing things(electronics, boat, trolling motor etc.) if I feel that the quality is there, but still can't bring myself to spend 300-500 dollars for a reel, when I can find one like the Daiwa SS. Albeit not as smooth as a 500 dollar reel, but the functionality and quality is there. I'll compromise the little extra 'smoothness' for 400 hundred dollars any day of the week.

bulletproof- well, it may be best for the money, but i signed a contract with my dad so i dont have to pay any money at all. i just want the best. and since i can have the extra smootheness, i might as well take it.

If you ask eveyone on this board what is the "best reel". They will tell you what they use. It is personal opinion and nothing more. I myself like and use the Quantum spinning reels and their Accurist baitcasting reel. To me "they" are the best. Just my .02.

If I were to buy another spinning reel, Either the Daiwa Sol Spinning, or Quantum Energy PTi or the Shimano Stella. Either way, good luck fishing with it Cranky

Doc,Heck no I don't have that reel I posted. You asked what was the best reel and so I posted it. If I had that kind of money, I still wouldn't pay that much for a spinning reel. I would be happy with a Daiwa Laguna or something in that range, but then you asked what was the best reel, not what we would buy or what we use. P N J

Cranky, once you determine which reel you will "purchase", you must then determine what size. My sense is that you will eventually narrow the scope of your size decision to two: either the 2500 or the 4000. If you intend to use the reel especially for Largemouth, I personally recommend the 4000.
