Too cool....My 3 year old had a huge Chain Pickeral hit a hooked bluegill as he was reeling it to the boat on his Lightin McQueen rod. It immediately snapped the line

That is pretty cool it's prob better that she wasn't there to land the fish it might have pulled her in

Along that note last summer I picked up my Nieces Minnie Mouse pole and casted it, and I gotta say it is easier to cast a Baitcaster that is out of adjustment. The whole let loose of the trigger just in time is a pain and I ended up losing the worm and saying nuts it. "that was the only pole on the boat"

The ones I've bought my kids were zebcos on a short rod, and zebcos have always been good reels for the price. But still 21 pounds and he couldn't of had more than 6lb, 8lb test on it at the most. Probably more like 4lb if he didn't plan on catching anything bigger than bream. He had to of worked that fish to land it and not break the line.

I have often thought about taking out the kid's Scooby Doo rod with 4 lb test and seeing if I can work a 2 lb bass to the bank without breaking the line. I figured it would be good practice anyway.

I've caught 2 and three pounders on a zebco 33 all the time with no problem, don't know about the scooby doo. You might need to find you a little pink barbie reel. Get you a pink inflatable and you'll be set!

That's a wicked nice catfish for a tiny rod like that.

Do catfish taste good? I've never tried it, since all we have up here are hornpout which I've never caught.

I fish all the time in my pond for my 22-26" channel cats with an ultralite and 4-6lb test. Fun stuff. a 2lb bass, eh... I'd love to hook a 2lb bluegill!

I've got 4# on my 5' Ugly Stick Spinning rod/Shakespear reel combo. I might just put a 2/0 hook with finesse worm on it and have some fun at the neighborhood retention pond, if it ever stops raining. It has been raining since Friday night here and is supposed to continue until Wednesday or Thursday. I would fish in the rain but then my wife would know that I went fishing instead of coming right home after work.

The rod he used is in the pic. Not a barbie rod, but still...........

San Diego is known worldwide for its heavyweight largemouth bass, but it was a giant blue catfish that set a record Thursday at San Vicente.

Steve Oudomsouk, 58, of San Diego landed a 113.4-pound blue catfish while fishing off Quaide Point at the reservoir. The catch shattered the state record for blue catfish, a 101-pounder caught and released at San Vicente by Roger Rohrbouck in 2000.

Oudomsouk's son, Saki, translating for his Laotian father, said yesterday the catch was made with 15-pound Berkley Trilene line on a Shimano Triton reel. He said his father fought the giant blue for 20 minutes before boating it.

“The fish is in a freezer,” Saki Oudomsouk said. “Fish and Game is going to check it and take some DNA samples. They want to know why this fish got so big.”

Oudomsouk came close to getting an International Game Fish Association line-class world record. There is no 15-pound-test class, but the record for 16-pound line is a 116-pound, 12-ounce blue catfish caught by Charles Ashley Jr. on the Mississippi River in Arkansas on Aug. 3, 2001.

Rohrbouck's catch remains an IGFA line-class world record for 12-pound line. Rohrbouck used 10-pound line to catch his huge catfish, but it qualified as a record for 12-pound since there is no 10-pound class.

This catfish, now in a freezer, likely was part of a plant of 1.25-to 2.50-pound blue cats stocked in San Vicente in 1985.
