A couple more pics...the second one is kind of eerily similar hehe.

A young one...a couple of inches long

A big one...obvious why they're a threat

Ya, stew and nofear are right! That's defiantly a wolf fish, since I saw the fish more than y'all, I can say with utmost certitude that it's a wolf fish!

Most of the lake and ponds along the interstates you can fish, just like this one! I've also seen two people in boats when I was driving by it.

Typically, when the Feds build an overpass, they will need lots of earth. They make deals with the local property owner, that if he lets them dig the hole on his property, they'll make it into a nice pond, and stock it per the DNR's recommendations. However, they also require him to let the public fish it, usually for no more than 5 years, before he gets to make it private.

It's been fish able for years! There's parts of lake next to the high way that say no fishing between signs, it's just a small part of the lake though... most of it is fish able though, and the while lake on the side we where on IS fish able!

Haha...sounds like they dug the borrow pond on more than one owner's property. Some landowners are more generous than others, I guess. But with lawyers running rampant to where an illegal alien can trespass on your property, get hurt, and then sue you successfully, who can blame them?

None of us were correct.

From an email with the above photo attached sent to ExoticFreshwaterFishID AT MyFWC.com

Mr. Stew

Although the fish looks similar to a trahira (wolfish) it is actually a native Bigmouth Sleeper (Gobiomorus dormitor). Bigmouth Sleeper’s are generally a brackish water fish but adults are commonly found in freshwater areas that ultimately connect to the ocean. These are one of Florida’s “mystery fish” as many people who catch one have never seen one before and often mistake them for something else.

Hmmm, thanks stew for sending that in. Now we know. It kinda looked like an overgrown aquarium fish of some sort.

Cool! So it was a big mouth sleeper after all! I must have been planted there since there was no lead off to brackish water... I wonder who did it?

The reason I ask is...I admit the biologist at that Agency certainly has more knowledge than I do, though I consider myself a huge fish nerd as far as knowing hundreds and hundreds of species. However, like us, the biologist is still looking at the not too helpful picture. Unless he/she (don't you love names like "Kelly?") actually examines the fish, I wouldn't say 100% it is a bigmouth sleeper. Probably is though. Kind of cool to catch a real rarity that isn't an invader!
