Default Poison Ivy...

Ok, so I guess I ran into some poison ivy, but I have no clue where... had it since tuesday, so be best bet would be fishing the reservoir monday...

It itches like crap, and it's hard to resist scratching, but enough whining about it and on to my question. Anybody got a fast and effective cure? (I'd settle for just effective...)

I'm going to the doctor's tomarrow since what I've been putting on it hasn't been working and it's spreading. I'm thinking prednisone or a cortisone shot is probably what I need, but I though I'd ask if anybody had a good remedy for it.

Are you using Calamine Lotion? Always worked for me.

I remember once I was so sunburned there was nothing that would relieve the pain. Constant pain, even trying to sleep.

Then I remembered an old indian trick. Whisky.

Worked for me.

We've got a spray version, and I am. It feels great for about 20-25 minutes then itches again. The can says not to apply more than 4 times a day...

Lol, WTL, I'll pass, but thanks for the suggestion.

First wash it good with dishwashing liquid. Dawn is great because it's a degreaser which breaks up the oil based chemical that causes the rash. Regular bath soap doesn't break down the oil.
Rub vinager on it.
Rubbing it with the inside of a banana peel helps.
I've also soaked it in heavily salted water and that helps.

BB as soon as I get it, I run to the after hours clinic, because I would be engulfed for waiting 3 months to see my physician. And I get the shot. It is the only thing that works for me. The Z-packs don't even put a dent in it. And calamine lotion is a joke. My sister always tells me to put oatmeal in a bath and it is supposed to dry it out. But like I said, if I find a little spot, I go for the shot.

You're welcome.

My old mans remidy for everything was kerosine and macuracomb. I got hold of a cat once that went crazy and scratched the snot out of me. Next thing I knew pop layed a kerosine soaked rag on me and I swear I saw Jesus and blacked out for a few seconds. Took off running through the yard with a hardy AAAAAAAAAAHHHHH...... screaming bloody murder. Then he thought I'd come when he called to put some macuracomb on me. lol

anthony i used to get poison ivy really really bad, have made several trips to the e.r. and ended up getting shots to get rid of it. ever since my last shot when i was probably 12 or 13 i have only had it once knock on wood, but it was a dandy..........it even ended up in my mouth.

as long as it is on my arms or legs i have had pretty good luck with mixing bleach 50/50 with water and using a Q-tip to spread it over the rash. it doesn't burn like you would think but it does sting a little. i have heard a lot of people say not to do this but it's easy for someone else to tell you not to do it when they aren't the ones scratching themselves silly lol. anyways i haven't had any bad effects from it and while it doesn't get rid of it in a great big hurry it does help dry it out and it doesn't seem to hang around much longer.

good luck, i know how bad that stuff is.

p.s. britney who has worked at a pharmacy for years just told me to tell you that if the bleach trick doesn't help she has heard that zanfel is supposed to be awesome.
