Thanks, but I would need to know what an "aperture" is first! My picture-taking approach mirrors my fishing approach. I just use something that I hope will take decent pictures (or catch fish) without knowing much about the "tool" I'm using, which in this case is a point-and-shoot camera where I don't have to do anything manual. I did have a J-term photography class in college, but that was back in the 80s, and I don't think I retained much from that by now.

Nice shots stick. Definitely getting better. Watterboy is right, it's much easier with animals that will pose for ya!

My grandma feeds her birds, and consequently the squirrels every day. It's not too tough when they're used to people.

Now here's your trivia question...(without Google, people )..

What gender is that cat, and why?

We happen to have 3 cats, and I'm pretty sure I know the answer and why, but I'll let others give it a shot first.

Some kind of genetic thing. Majority of calico cats are female. I didn't google this tonight, but having owned calicos I just knew.

Calicos are all female! (except as I will mention below)

The reason is that for cats, the gene for any particular color is on the X chromosome. White is not a color...it is the lack of any color gene...sort of a "base coat" if you will.

Hence, male cats, having only one X chromosome, may only have one color, whether it be black, orange, gray, whatever.

Females, having two X chromosomes can have two colors obviously.

The only exceptions to this are cats with genetic defects, such as a cat with XXY. This cat will usually appear as a two-colored male, at least externally, but are usually sterile, and as Bama pointed out, may not live long.

My trivia for the day is over.

That's cool. I never knew that. Of course I've never bothered to learn much about cats except for trying to learn how to talk the ex out of getting one and or talking them into getting them out of the house. So far I've lost each attempt.

Not really. That's a ferrel cat that hangs around here so I'm just assuming given how low her belly is hanging. We used to have a ton of them around here but they've all seemed to disappeared. There's a hawk around I see every once in awhile that I think may have something to do with that.

A little bird told me.

Naw, that cat is always having kittens so it's either knocked up or nursing.

Great photos so far stick, I'll have to try to get some of the black squirrels that hang out in our yard. From what I hear they aren't found in all parts of the country. There are all white ones too, but the black ones are around most days.
