As a general rule, you can do anything you want in Illinois, as long as it doesn't entail making an honest living, or having fun.

Taken from the rule book:
Anglers must not use more than 2 poles and each pole must not
have more than 2 hooks or lures attached while fishing, except that
legal size cast nets, (in accordance with subsection 810.50(a)(1))
shad scoops, and minnow seines may be used to obtain shad,
minnows, and crayfish to use as bait, provided that they are not
sold, and except that bullfrogs may be taken by hand, gig, pitchfork,
spear, landing net, and hook and line during bullfrog season

Alabama rigs I believe are not allowed. I live in Wisconson so I could be wrong.

What I would do is lash two rods together then you could use a 4 wire rig.

Pointless freaking laws like that make my blood boil! Why on God's green Earth would you have that law??!!?

As long as you have bag limits and such, who care how you get em (other then guns and explosives that is)!

Pointless, like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. It may or may not be a necessary regulation, but I strongly suspect that THEY THOUGHT it was something that was beneficial for the fishery. Different states have different ideas about such things.

Most states have set laws for their own reasons, point being WHEN IN ROME
I think indiana, ohio and tennessee its three per pole, pays to read and head those regs they give you when you purchase a license.Exception is crappie rigs with number 6 or smaller hooks,in tennesse anyway.
