Default Split Rings Question

Hey guys, I've gotten into making my own lures lately, and I recently bought some flutter spoon blanks to make some custom ones. However, I can't seem to get the split rings on them without throroughly stretching them out. I'm using size 3 and 4 split rings, so they're fairly large, but the gap between the edge of the spoon and the holes for the rings is so large it just demolishes the split rings. Is there a technique to get them on there without messing them up, or a way to compress them back afterwards? Thanks for your input,
Jesse

I have no clue how large that gap is on your spoons. When I've put split rings on something that has a gap bigger than usual, I don't try to stretch the rings to the full size of the gap. Rather I open the ring and try to slide the ring onto the spoon (just to use your example) such that the spoon and the open part of the ring are sort of parallel.

I don't know if I explained that very clearly, but it works if the size of the gap is within reason.

Try the Owner Hyper Wire Split Rings. When I replace hooks on baits I also replace the split rings most of the time. Have used them on 1/4oz cranks up to 8 inch swimbaits. I think they would come closer to springing back into shape than any other.
