Default Had a good tournament

Fished my third tournament of the year on Grand Lake yesterday and really had a good day. I pre-fished on Friday and had a great morning. I was able to locate a lot of fish and nail down a pretty solid pattern up Elk River. I caught the fish in the picture first thing in the morning off of a really shallow point at the mouth of a spawning cove, the cool thing that makes this point so good is that the point is really shallow but there is deep water close by because there is a creek channel that comes out of the cove and swings up to the tip of the point. This fish weighed 5.15 and as soon as I caught her I left that spot alone for the tournament. My next stop was another cove at the mouth of another spawning cove, I lost a fish on this point that was at least as big as the one in the picture. Everywhere I fished that morning fit this pattern and almost every fish gave up some fish. All of these fish came on Wiggle Warts but as soon as the sun got up the bite stopped. Yesterday was game day and our first stop was where I caught the 5.14 in practice. My partner caught a 4lber right off the bat. After that I got on a roll and caught our next 4 keepers and we had a pretty descent limit by 7:30 in the morning. With the pressure of catching a limit off our backs and the way my bite has been dying off when the sun got high I decided roll the dice. We ran to the main lake which was a lot dirtier and really windy because I knew that the muddy water should probably turn on once the sun got up, and we really had nothing to lose because my bite up Elk River was about to stop with the sun getting up. We didn't catch a ton of fish in the dirty water but man we got the right bites. We were able to cull all but one of our fish we caught up Elk River, you know it's been a good day when your trying to cull a 3.11lb fish. We weighed in 19.79 which was good enough for 9th place out of 100 boats. We made a little money and beat some really good sticks.

Kory that is really neat.
Finding the right water on such a big body of water is amazing and very impressive in my book!
Then to switch game plan and move to a complete different water conditions and succeed again, GREAT JOB!

And ninth out of 100 boats, 200 anglers...great way to start your tournament season!

And to explain how and why you made your decisions and the results of said decisions.
And the Wiggle Wart....still working for you...that just brings a big smile!

Thank you for the share.

Good results, there are def. some good sticks on Grand Lake. Many of them visit one of the local tackle stores here in Wichita, and we get to visit with them at length.

That's awesome Kory! What is it with Wiggle Warts and the Grand? I hear the two mentioned hand in hand all the time. That's a great start to your year. When and where is your next tourney?

Some of each Keith. I caught more fish this weekend on a pre-Rapala Wiggle Wart but my biggest fish came on a new one, go figure LOL.

Wiggle Warts have always been an incredible pre spawn crankbait. Anytime the water is below 60 degrees in the spring you can almost bet that a Wiggle Wart will catch fish if there is a crankbait bite at all, especially if you have fairly clear water. On our Ozark lakes like Table Rock and Beaver Lake they are even better. I started really using them on Grand a lot in the last few springs and was almost surprised at how well they caught fish because Grand is generally not a very clear lake at all. I never heard much about other guys using them on Grand up until the Classic this past February, I'm sure there were guys using them but they certainly gained popularity since the Classic. I would be willing to bet the Wiggle Wart bite is probably going to be done by my next tournament though because the water is warm enough now that I wasn't real sure if they would still eat it very well and we are supposed to start having some warmer weather this next week. My next tournament is next month, I have 3 next month actually and then 4 in June.

Thanks again guys. Sorry it's been so long since I've replied on here, things have been really busy for me and I haven't had much free time. We were fishing Anglers in Action. There were a lot of good bags weighed in that day.

Thought I congratulated you, but must have hit the back button. I know it is a little past the mark, but congrats anyways!

You and the misses coming to see us when we go to Branson in the end of July? I plan on looking up a guide for a Table Rock trip while I am there.

Thanks man. All I can promise you about Branson is that we will try. I am fishing two trails this year in addition to every other tournament I can pull off in an attempt to make some good things happen for me in the future fishing wise. This and family obligations have a way of depleting free time, but I will do what I can.
