Default Sluggo

Just bought a pack today..

They are the almost 5 inch long ones.. (Medium Size...? There were also 4in and 6in)

You fish these Texposed weightless correct?

How do you fish these?

and what size hook?

Thanks,

Chris

It's a jerk bait. Fish them just like you would a fluke. I use 3.0 and 4.0, depending on size I'm throwing. Fish it weightless on spinning rod. Lots of info on this site about flukes. Slugo will put bass in your boat. Good luck

I use a 3/0 worm hook by Gamakatsu weightless, and cast it near pockets in cover or around brush and twitch it back in trying to make it look like a minnow in trouble. If I possition the slugo just right on the hook the nose of the slugo will have a slight upturn to it. By doing that you can easily cause it to jump slightly out of the water. Seems to drive the bass crazy.

ya have to really make a good hookset with a sluggo , the body is bigger in diameter than flukes, gentle twitches of this bait make it dart and dive, and also go upward, after a few twitches, let it rest to sink a tad, some will put finishing nails in the body to make its action dif and esp. sink faster..its a good bait, but I favor the fluke for better hookset..as always , use a barrel swivel and a leader to avoid line twist..I go with a 18 inch leader, and use a 5/0 gammy...

I like them near cover, bushes, logs, pads etc etc, walk them on surface, and on the pads, drop it in openings, you really cant fihs it wrong. Hooksets as JB said can be a problem, becuase the bait is very thick, and the plastic is tough. I favor a MH Spinning rod for these baits, as they are best fished weightless, and spinnign rods allow youto cast them easier IMO. I also favor the use of braided lines, to aid in the hookset.

JB, My tackle pack has jigs, trailers,4" paddle tail worm, 5" Kalin grubs. Then at times there is all of the extras thrown in depending on how I hafta fish to catch them on a certain lake, or seasonal conditions. Then there are those days, I kick myself for knowing what I need sits home because I kept it simple.I do like it when I have been known to pack the right stuff from time to time, but never close to the amount of times I don't.Thats why I am going back to the tackle binder system, it allows me a wider assortment that I wouldn't usually carry.P N J

actually i just seen a video from 94-95 -rick green- was rigging the sluggo both ways. the flat side and the rounded side. rounded side rigging made it sink worked a bit like a trick worm. the flat side rigging made it pop the surface..

i recent bought a bunch of old fishing video's..

I got 4 today, they were in in the 6 for a dollar bin at the local bait shop, got some 6 in, and some 4 in. The 6 inch one were heavy, so I put them on a Jobee pro hooke and fished themn like a jerk bait. Nothing happened, because, the fish were deep.

i have had problems with my hooksets, you really have to cross their eyes! when you fish these baits, the strike might feel like a slight weight ,or the bass might run off with, either way,let the bass take it for a few seconds, cause the bait is so big,the bass needs time to play with it in his mouth before you set the hook.

I like tru-turns with the senko. I know it makes a "bundle or bump" at the nose of the lure but can you fish these things wrong? Watermellon cream laminate drives the big mammas crazy in SE Tx. The tru-turn hook gives you extra leveredge (sp) with the cam "deal". I rarely miss a hook-up with them.
