Judging by your location, I would venture to say yes. I would check current breaks or slack water positions

The only way to find out is to go and fish it. Life in FL is so abundant, anything more than 5 ft wide and a foot or two deep is guaranteed to have at least brim gar and most likely bass in it. I've seen 10lb bass sitting in creeks where it was 10ft wide and 4ft deep, so it couldn't hurt to try. BTW, based on location I might try for some channel cats while fishing that river.

zooker,
heres the ohio river at sunrise, it narrows somewhat in the eastern portion of ohio, but most of the areas here are pretty darn wide. They had to dig and dredge parts of the ohio river out way back when, the big boats would hit pockets of water in the summer and then some flat areas that were dry as a bone. Theres lots of refereces to it and pictures from the 1930s around cincinnati. Today the barges and paddle steam boats go up and down the ohio river like clockwork, many are huge but theres still hundread of yards of open waters to the sides of them, even tho they do stay over the deeper channel, which runs closer to the Ky. side than ohio, the better fishing is either mouths of creeks or the creeks themselves, which are located about every 8-10 miles apart from each other...most of the creeks are about 50 ft wide . |

zook has a point. Something like you described is more likely to have brook trout, but smallmouth bass is possible.

I guess none of you have been to New Mexico, some rivers here are only 30 in across.

Here are a couple popular rivers around my way. The first picture is of the James River. I'll be on it tommorrow for a bass tourney. The next one is a creek in the Potomac River. We were fishing in a tourney there when this spike buck came out of the grass and decided to swim accross the creek behind us. The Potomac is an awesome bass fishery and the James is an awesome cat fishery. There are a few bass in there too!
Eric If you want some BIG water... here's a parking lot on the Chesapeake Bay! |
