hey everyone, im thinking of getting a st criox 6'6 mh avid series rod, what would be a good reel to match this rod

I've had no trouble with my Daiwas either, however I used a Shimano the other night that was really impressive. Find friends that own a variety of reels and try them out yourself.

Mine balanced out perfect with a Sahara 2500FB, and an Okuma Stratus? 30. both are great reels for under 50.00.

Casting rod? I'd suggest a Daiwa 153HST. Great performance and wayyyyy lighter than the new series Shimanos, less costly too.

RIP, Curado, you were a great one when you were GREEN (especially LIGHT GREEN, as in 200BSF..sniff.
If you just gotta have a Shimano, get the CastaicSF. Not "improved" (see: overpriced and obese) yet, thank God, and only 35 bux more than the 153HST.
Spinning? I'll leave that to the other guys.

oh yeah i guess i should have added it should be a spiining reel not to good with baitcasters, lol never really got into them as much,
over all i just need a good sensitive rod that i can us for feeling those little bumps, but strong enough to pull the lunkers out. so if anyone has anny suggestions to rods or reel, now it has me thinking... lol thx

Yeah...Go with a Pflueger. I especially like the Trion.

i have a st.croix avid 6'6, and i use my shimano stradic with it. but i got a way to big size. get a smaller shimano

Does Pflueger make a lower gear ratio (5:1:1) reel for fishing crankbaits and slow rolling spinnerbaits? I've tried the Trion and like it a lot, but I've only been able to find it in the higher gears.

I've got three in a 4.3:1 made just for cranking. They are last years models, and I am not sure they still make them, but check your local Sporting goods stores and see if they still have them. and maybe they can order them. Pflueger also makes a machined (round) version of the Trion, in 5.3:1, and It makes a good cranking reel also. They still make it. i own several and they are great reels.And they come in several sizes, so they fit your hand well.

I've been using Okumas Stratus and Metaloid. I have a president also. The Okumas are really smooth and work flawlessly. The president never worked right but I kept it. The bail doesn't always return after casting, and the anti reverse doesn't always work. Should have taken it back.

There could be endless possibilities.What price range are you looking to spend ? I would rather sacrifice lighter weight, for an all metal frame and all metal side plates on a spinning reel.I think it will be worth the trade off of the ounce , or so extra weight.Spinning reels are not my cup of tea.I don't like using them, but I do. I bought a Browning Citori spinning reel last year.It works very well, the drag works real smooth and it has 8 bearing system that allows it to crank liquid smooth.I got it on sale for $49.00 from $99.99. I am surprisingly happy with the performance . It shouldn't be difficult to find one you like.There are so many different spinning reels to choose from, I recommend going to a store where you can handle the reels. Saint Croix also makes spinning reels. P N J
