Default Suggestions for painting jig heads and sinkers

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good paint product for jig heads and worm sinkers? I found a product called Herbie's Magic Dust for jig heads and other sites say just to use spray paint. Most of the paints out on the market are all solid color, but I would prefer more variations like watermelon and pumpkinseed. Any suggestions?

As far as the color choices go you will have to pretty well stay with the paints made for just what you need. There is a paint company that Jann's Netcraft carrys that is pretty decent. I use it dont swear at it or on it just ok for the money. Want GOOD quality gotta go with the powder paints. Tough as nails and done in a few seconds on each jig.

Not as durable as powder paints, but OK for a make-do solution.....paint a base coat of white with acrylic craft paint available at Wal Mart for 44 cents or so. After drying, use colored nail polish and after drying, finish off with a coat of Hard as Nails with Nylon (a fairly hard clear finish). If you are going really dark, use black as a base coat with the craft paint. When the color wears off, simply touch up with more polish.

i saw an episode of asstech on this. powderpaint works best, but normal airbrush paint can work too. paint it, sprinkle some glitter, and the just give it a coat of epoxy. make sure you use a toothpick to put thru itso the hole doesnt clog

Crankybait,

I saw the same episode last week, but missed out on the early portion of the show when they talked about painting the sinkers. I appreciate all of your input and will try all of the suggestions mentioned and pass anything along that I find that helps.

You know when you heat the lead head up and you first stick it in the powder paint, you know how that little trail of smoke comes up at first....
for some reason I flash back about 20 years and have this uncontrolable urge to suck up that little trail of smoke and hold it as deep and as long as I can .....

Seriously, I like and use the powder as well, clean and easy, and quick too!

BETURSWEETBASS,
Go ahead and suck up that little wisp of smoke. You will not care about what color your sinkers are, or much else for that matter. The undertaker will be wiping your butt!!!

Getting back on track, I usually just spray paint them flat black. I tried the powder paint but couldn't figure a way to keep the holes in the sinker from clogging up. Tried sticking a toothpick in each end but that didn't work.

Somewhere I seen a minature powdercoat machine. It creates a static charge to the powdercoat and gives you a more accurate layer of paint.Mac is an expert of home made fishing lures .He has alot of knowledge when it comes to creating fishing lures. His home made lures was the ticket to catching good bass for me this spring. once again"read the directions! paint the jig with powder paint ,then use a regular eye cleaner to clean the jig eye.THEN put them in the oven{if your single} or the bbq grill at 320 degees to bake the paint on. but ive been told powder has doubled in price.also wally world has an air brush kit for models that works wonders ,even on small items

You can create some interesting colorations and with the powder paint if you have a lot of patience. You do get, for example, some excellent greens when mixing black and chartreuse powders. You can also get interesting effects with the powders by not mixing the two colors completely and rolling the heated lead across the color changes when you first apply the powders.
