A baitcaster has the ablity to hold much heavier line and you can wench fish out of heavy cover with better results..
Spinning gear has a place in bass fishing also, you really need to carry both to be effective..the bait caster can handle your heavier lures, where the spinning gear is suited for most bass lures but are especially effective with lighter line and lures that the bait caster has problems "getting out there" with the cast.

actually today's baitcasters make it fairly easy to cast weightless plastics.spinning is almost now only better for real finesse lures.i've seen guys who can skip with a baitcaster.i'm going to work on it this year.a baitcaster is far more accurate because you can stop the lure with your thumb at any time.they are stronger and don't twist your line.for most apllications other than finesse a baitcaster is the way to go.

spinning is good for dragging tubes and throughing small jigs

baitcasters are good for spinnerbaits and flippen and pitchin

With a baitcaster you have the ability to pitch and flip two of the most important skills in bass fishing that cant be done with a spinning reel and like JB said you are able to hold hevier line and wench those hawgs out of there layers. IMO baitcasters are alot ezer to handle no line twist, better hooksets, ect. and like dodge guy said they are ALOT more accurate, if you do decide to buy one you will see what we mean.

i really dont think you can pitch with a spinning reel maybe flip but not pitch without making a sound like a baitcaster. maybe 1 out of 10 times without making a sound with a spinning reel.

You want to stay in the range of 10-20lb mono 20for flippin. you dont really want to go lower then 10 on a baitcaster thats when you go for the light tackle spinning outfit.

lunker hunter that is true bull crap i was pitchin and flippin with a spinning rod way before i figured out the bait caster.. the ONLY thing that is very diffacult to do with a baitcaster is skip plastic baits under docks. this i leave up to a spinning rod that and light finesse baits. i use a bait caster for the harder to get a good hook set in thicker plastic baits -bush hogs, paca craws,ect..- if you want distance spinning reel would get it but not very accurant at any lenth distance.

I started using baitcasters late last summer. It was a very awkward transition. Recently, I've been thinking about buying a nice spinning reel. But, I started to think why? The only answer I came up with is I want to do some things such as skipping lures that I can't currently do with my baitcasters. So, buying a spinning reel is just a cop out for me. I've seen guys skip lures with baitcasters. It can be done. You just have to keep at it. Cranking power is definitely a baitcaster plus. As they say, once you go baitcaster, you never go back.
