Default Big Wobble vs. Tight Wobble Crankbaits

Just picked up a handfull for FATBOY normans crankbait for the warmer water temps, and man they are sweet...
Usually in waters 50-60ish I stick with tight wobble slender crankbait,
bomber flat A and also ratLtrap, then the fish key in a wider wobble during the summer months, can't weight to see something nail this suckah~

i use a bait with a wider wobble when the fish are slugish and tight when they are active

"Normally", wide wobbles are good for warmer water while tight wobbles are good for cooler water. When using crankbaits, in clear water try and not use one with a rattle. When in murky water do just the opposite.

Muddy water calls for a different approach, your baits should have rattles for a bass to home into. In this situation, you may prefer wide wobbling cranks. Regarless of the water temps.

You may be right. But for me thats the way I use these type baits. Have heard it from others as well. However, I will keep your comments in mind for the next time I go out.

Bassnman, your correct from everything I have learned throwing them.I don't use fat bodied cranks much here. The toothy critters like them though even if the water temp is cold.P N J

kicker
one thing i know from having been around bassnman is he KNOWS crankbaits. in this area crankbaits are the #1 bait of choice. and bassnman IS better than GOOD with them. compaired to him i suck at it-i have my moments- but have not gained the consitancy he has with crank baits. if he says something about crankbaits belive it....

I'm not THAT good ! There are days when a crankbait just doesn't work, believe me I've been there, done that. Many others have better and more knowledgeable opinions than me. Especially around here, in Lexington.

Wider wobble when water is stained, murky and muddy. The wider wobble and slower retrieve displaces much more water. Having said that, it is the same when fishing a jig in stained, murky, and muddy water. The bigger the jig, or another words bulkier, the more water it moves hence the fish are more apt to find the bait.

I also have about 6 different colors of these. They do look sweet don't they LOL. I actually threw one today with no success, of course nothing else worked for me today either, I should've thrown some TNT, maybe then would have caught a bass, instead of all these stinking mudfish. I will say they are almost a combo of the fat, and skinny wobble IMO. Just the retireive speed will vary the wobble, faster the retireive the skinnier it looks, the slower the retrieve the more they resemble a Mann's -1.

My opinion.....Tight when cold and wide when warm. Has always worked for me except on one lake that I fish. But there are exceptions to the rule in EVERYTHING. This particular lake Lake Grampus the 50-65 degree water you will catch more fish using a slow wide wobling crank than any other lure. No one can figure it out and we dont try we just fish the wide wobblers on this lake.

If it were only that easy. Can't make a good contrasting opinion here. The water in Fl is never really cold. I primarily use Ratltraps in all weather. There are cooler days when the fish get picky, but Im not sure if that dictates being sluggish.
