Wacky Rigging a Senko

Hey guys...

This might be a stoopid question, but what is the correct way of rigging a Senko, or any plastic worm, wacky style?? (drop-shot, t-rig)..Of course the hook goes through the middle of the worm, but what rig do most of you use? I know that most of you would probably say that there is no correct way, but which way do you guys normally do it?

I was told from a few other people that I can only do i using the drop shot rig, instead of t-rig and so on...and I wanted your opinions as well?

I use the whacky rig the most on senko or tiki sticks, I prefer a 3/0 gammy offset hook

I would use a Senko, never tried a Tiki Stik....Also, I do use a 3/0 Gammy offset hook as well...

But my question was what rig do you use??? I'm not sure if you understand my original question or not, but how is my set up supposed to look like?

One of the cool things about bass fishin, is the ability to be creative, and try different set ups. Depending on what you want your bait to do in the water, as far as senko's go, they can be rigged in all the ways you mentioned above and more. You don't have to rig a certain bait in any one way. A tiki stick is just about the same thing as the senko too, by the way. They are usually identical in appearence, but my vary slightly in their weight, and or action in the water. I like to use either a tiki stick or senko, on texas rig's and on the fly, meaning with no weight on the line. I'll toss them out and use a random "jerk bait" type of retrieve. Then they are times when I will rig them T-rig style and drag them over the bottom. A wacky worm rig will usually consist of using a drop shot style hook or an offset hook thru the middle of the worm/tiki stick and just dead stickin the lure in open water, letting it fall thru the strike zone. There should be plenty of pictures available on the web that will show you how to hook up these baits and how to use them as well. Good Luck and keep in touch.

I guess I was just confused with the whole which rig to use when wanting to rig a worm wacky style... Like I mentioned, someone told me that I NEED to use a drop shot set up, not just the hook, to wacky rig a worm and fish it correctly...instead of using the t-rig, and just letting the worm go through the middle vs. the normal way u would rig a worm on a
t-rig ??? Thats what I was really getting confused about...Please, keep the replies coming, I want to know what you other guys do...

no weight in needed to wacky rig, some prefer a circle hook for the senko,
I put that 3/0 through the middle, no bullet or drop shot, then cast and let it sit,, an sit, move slowly with rod tip..I caught way more bass
on wacky rig on a tiki stick than Texas rigged or drop shot..I tried them all and they all produced, but the whole idea is to let it drop slowly horizonally.

Which senkos usually catch the bigger fish for you guys-4" or 5"?

I use both sizes, but I do prefer the 5" over the 4 inch. I have caught lots of fish on both, but have to admit more on the 5. But I also use the 5 inch for top water action too, which is why I use it more.
When the bite slows or gets tough, I like to down size and the 4 inch tiki/senko with its smaller diameter really fits the bill for downsizing. I also like to use yamamoto 3 or 4 inch curly tail grubs when downsizing. Using a 1/4 ounce tungsten bullet weight with the 4 inch tiki stick is a killer combo, the weight is almost the same diameter as the head of the tiki stick and makes for a very attractive finesse bait.

I like the 5" one's as well...but not the thicker fatter ones...i like the one's that are more sleek and less bulky...Wave Worms/Tiki sticks make them in both styles...

you can't T-rig a wacky rig because they are two different things...it'd be impossible to rig one bait both ways :P

the style of hook has nothing to do with the type of rig, just adds to effectiveness or..ineffectiveness, however you wanna look at it. A wacky rig is probably the easiest way to rig a bait because all you do is hook it in the middle of the bait and throw it out and pull it up and let it fall. No special rigs are needed, don't REALLY need a special hook, ...pretty easy to get goin.

I forgot to say..one way I never really hear anyone mention when fishing a soft stickbait is nose hooking.

Its a very effective open water rig, kind of gives a different feel than the texas rig.

Cool...Thanks again everyone... Ken, Sorry to confuse you or anyone when I mentioned the t-rig... I guess what I meant was, do I just tie on the hook to my line, and then hook the worm? Thats all....

I am with bassintxlady on this one. Senko's are allright but to costly and tear to easy. The Wave worms tiki sticks have great colors and are cheaper than senko's plus roland martin endorses senko's and we all know how I feel about that pompous a@@. LMAO The tiki sticks have just as much action and dont tear as easy.

There is MY version of a t-rig/wacky-rig LOL I just texas-rig(t-rig) the senko in the middle of the worrm. You attach it just like a t-rig, but the eye of the hook is in the mioddle of the worm. I think it helps with hang up's and weedy areas personally.

berkley glup has came out with the berkley sinking minnow with a ball in the middle so when wacky rigging it you all ways get it right and it fall perfect every time because the ball is weighted
