Default Flipping and pitching

Im having trouble flipping and pitching soft baits, brush hogs, senkos ect.. I have two reels the Revo sx and the curado and they are both on 6"6 foot rods, I'm hardly getting any distance, should I get a 7 foot rod?

Flipping is not designed to get distance. Pitching is. You probably don't have your reel set properly or you are using baits that are too light.

Start with a 1/2 oz weight of some sort and see how you do. If you don't get at least 15' or more then you need to adjust the reel.

I use a SX and STX both for pitchin. I hardly flip anymore. Flipping as 3d said is for very short distance anyway. I have the STX on a 6'10" H/XF rod and the SX is on a 7'0" MH/F rod. If your using a 6'6" rod, you should still get good distance pitchin if your reel is correctly set. Going to a 7 foot rod isn't going to help you at this point. Proper reel setting and practice is whats called for. I set my main cast control knob fairly loose when pitchin. As for your brakes, if your new to pitchin, I would leave them a little on the high side to help prevent backlashes untill you get the hang of it. As you get better, you can back off on your brakes if you want. While you should get decent distance pitchin with practice, it's not meant to give you the same distance you would with conventional casting. I'm rarely targeting anything pitching over 30 foot.

reset your reel and educate your thumb. I use 6' 6" and sometimes 6' rods with the old type of Abu-Garcia reels. I started practicing with a 1/2" sinker and started pitchin short distances until I could work out to longer pitches. I pitch almost everything I fish with, cranks, plastics and spinnerbaits when working visual cover.

You'll get the hang of it, just keep practicing. You can cover a lot of country pitching. Good Luck!

Supertune your reel and if you want to get that extra ease and distance and some orange seals…..i’m thinking you are referring to pitching and not flipping as 3D and KDog said. But you have two reels I could say a lot but I’ll let a video or two do it. hope these help

Nice. Do you supertune those yourself or have someone do it? Did you teach yourself to use a left handed reel to make pitching easier? I find it really awkward to use one but after watching your speed, I think the change may be worthwhile.

Crankbait, I just found some of your other videos about reels. I'm going to check them out. Obviously you do this stuff yourself. Thanks.

I agree with everybody else, practice, practice, practice and set the reel up right.

I pitch weightless Senkos with my Revos all the time. My main setup for it is a Revo SX on a 7' med heavy Duckett rod.

Super tuning a reel with a two piece spool shaft is a waste. The very design eliminates the friction points that would be polished in another reel like the Curado. Before replacing perfectly good bearings, flush the stock ones completely and lube with one small drop of light oil. If the reel has some hours on it, it would probably benefit from a deep cleaning too. I get $18 for the service if you need. Be very careful if yiu attempt Super Tuning on a DIY basis. It's not brain surgery but I've seen some reels in my shop that were damaged by amateur attempts at tuning.
