flippin n pitchin

can someone tell me what the diff. in pitchin and flippin?
a video demonstration would be better

I can try to explain... (line length out is not very important for either application)

Pitching is what I like to do best...I start by letting out enough line to reach the butt of my rod and grab my bait with my off-hand. I then point my rod tip down with spool disengaged and snap my rod tip upwards to propel the bait forward (release the bait) while thumbing it.

Flipping is where you have your bait already in the water and want to not have to pick up line and pitch it again. You will grab some line from above your reel and pull it while raising your rod tip so the bait swings towards you. Then, with the momentum of the bait swinging, swing it back out and let the line in your hand out at the same pace of the bait or whatever you want for the technique/situation.

I practice in my living room...just play around with it and try and hit specific spots around corners, over things, or under items. Just work at it!

Watch Kevin's fall instructional video. He starts off talking about the fall from a dock, then demonstrates pitching and flipping from that dock. Flipping looks alot easier then it is. I'm just all thumbs when flipping, but I can pitch in my sleep I do it so often. Go figure.

i practiced it alot last summer and tried it a little with big plastic worms.. but i may try it with a jig this summer


One question i have with this.. if you flip or pitch to a hole in the pads.. and no bite on it..

then what?

do you dance it and pull it out and repeat? or reel it in then try it again

Flipping and Pitching is the delivery part, what you do with your lure once it's there is another story all together.

I like pitching creature baits like a Ugly Otter or a big worm into a hole and let it slowly drop to the bottom. After a short pause, I'll give it a pop or two, then another pause. If nothing, then I'll reel in and try another hole.

i was thinking like a craw trailer on a jig.. or craw like texas rigged.. 10" worms or 7" worms..

don't waste your money on the Booyah Flipsta , get yourself some cups and go out in the yard and practice out there . Put a cup or a smaller bucket under a bush or tree with low hanging branches and practice pitching to it . It will do wonders for you .

last year i tried pitching into random things.. i i tried hitting my basketball goal pole..

then with a 5 gallon bucket while standing on my picnic table.
then i migrated to a tire rim center hole.. then i tried the cup

i'm probally gunna start back with it.. i probally suck at it now..

If you practice pitchin in your yard be sure to cut the bard off the hook. I went to a pitchin seminar went home and made about 10 practice pitchs. I had a hula grub on a football jig. I got it in about 5' from me and bam this hawk swoops down and picks up my jig with his claws. He got the barb tangled in his neck feathers but with pair of work gloves I got him free and released him no injury. Pretty stupid on my part. I was pitchin behind a tree and guess he didnt see me. Not proud to say my first catch pitchin was a hawk on a hula grub.

if you got good at it last summer, you will still be good at it....it is one of those things that once you get good you will always remember how to do it....but to be better than everyone else...you have to do it day in and day out.

i can pitch with my eyes closed in the yard....on a boat is a whole diff. story...i have never tried it on a boat with artificials.

i really dont see the need for flipping if you know how to pitch.

just practice at it whereever you can. Set up cups and jugs and other items and just try to pitch or flip to them. It takes a lot of practice to get good at it but once you get used to it it is pretty fun.
