Fishing Line Leftovers..
Have you ever been fishin' a crank (or what have you) and all of a sudden, you reel up a mess of tangled line? Or have you ever been caught up on that tangled line? Well I have... CONSTANTLY. People down here have no respect for the lake and/or the people who fish that lake. They can at least minimize the line that will be left in the water.. I mean, what if some kid was swimmin and got caught up in it? Wow..
This is just a friendly reminder to minimize your wasted line from being in the water. stevomac

yeah man, that hacks me off to no end.....another thing that torks my jaws is catfishermen that leave their trotlines hangin on every stump in the lake..forever...and those Yoyo's that use yo-yo's, but always seem to find they need to nail a 2X4 onto a peice of standing timber so they can hang 2 yo-yos instead of just one....then they never take down the boards.....so instead of fishin around standing timber it looks like i'm fishin in a cemetary with all the crosses around.....geeeez those guys rub me the wrong way.....I took a nail bar with me the last time I went to the lake just so I could pull down their boards.....sad part is they'll probably be replaced by the time I get to go fishin again.....and don't get me started on Juglines that never get picked up!!!

Personally, for those few times I have a birds nest that's a no go, I cut it off and put the line in a ziplock bag I keep in one of the exposed side pouches on my tackle bag.

I have had to dispose of anothers left behind line more times than i can count, you would think that people would have more respect for the areas that they fish . As towards a really bad birds nest i keep an extra reel in my bag and switch out the nested one if it is that bad and then deal with it at home .

I have a small trash can on my boat that all trash goes in and gets emptied when I get home.
I was out about a month ago fishing a rattletrap over some hydrilla and got snagged. When I finally got it to the boat there was a bunch of other line around my clump of grass. When I get it all cleared up I notice another lure on the end of that mess of line. I am now the proud owner of a SPRO BBZ-1 swimbait. The hook was not even starting to rust yet, so I don't think it was down there long at all. Brute |

This weekend I separated a dead bird, yellow finch, from a tangle of line someone left behind. It got tangled up and flew into the brush and entangled itself even worse. Poor little fella died hanging up in the bush... Line, wrappers, trash, etc are the main reason people end up posting property.

I really don't mind picking line left by the idiots who leave it lay around. I figure it is worth the time to do my part for the environment.
Last year Lancer6 and I were fishing our local electrics only lake when this guy in a beautiful wood kayak came paddling up to us and asked us if we had any line clippers. I know-dumb question. Anyway, he reached down inside the kayak and produced a small duck that was all tangled up in discarded line. We cut it loose and it was no worse for wear, but especially after that I always just wind it up and throw it away or if it is off one of my reels recycle it. Just be sure if you put it in your pocket to take it out. My wife was not too pleased when several pieces went through the washer/dryer

I agree with the repsonses 100%. Please allow me to add a little something extra to it. Becareful with the cut pieces of line and discarded line around the house/garage area. Please keep track and properly dispose of these sections of discarded line. Animals will play with and sometimes eat the line. Fishing line does not play well with the stomach or intestines of the family pet. A lot of them die from this. There is not a quicker way to tick off the spouse than for their beloved pet to get sick or die from your fishing line. I have seen it happen several times. The out come was not always good for the pet and it was almost always fatal for the fisherman. Just a thought from the forum vet.

This happend to my dog last year... My little cousins were messing around with my Abu Garcia and birdnested it! I had to take out ALL of the line to throw it away, but my little cousin had to take it out of the garbage and play with it(IDK why?)... leaving it outside.. resulting in my dog eating it... it clog is stomache and had to get surgery..now I ALWaYS keep my rods/reels in my room, where NOBODY can access them!

I keep a bag with me Just for that purpose. I hate finding a wad of fishing line anywhere. I was taught at an early age by my father to clean up your fishing area, or next time you may not be allowed to fish. I have lived by that rule, it includes all trash.

I always keep them in the boat and throw 'em away at home or at the ramp. Same thing with used soft plastics.
