Lets talk about traps. whats you favorite brand and why? Whats your favorite color and why? I love the trap but i just want to see what you guys think of them.

If you're refering to Rattle Traps, that's the only lipless crankbait I use. I generally only use them in the early spring to summer, then again the fall to winter period. While I've tried 1/4-3/4 oz traps and many colors, I've settled on just 1/2 oz for the weight, and my primary colors are Chrome/black or blue back, and Aurora Gray/black back.

I also modify my cranks by removing the tail end hook. I know that it sounds weird, but 9 out of 10 hits I get are on the bottom hook, while half the snags in the weeds are on the back hook. Try it and see if it's not the case and doesn't increase your hookup ratio.

Traps ? there´s only one "trap" ---> Rat L Trap

Lipless cranks ? ----> I don´t have a favorite, they all work, I have Rat L-Traps, Rattlin Rapalas, Bomber Rattlin RRR ( no longer made ), Cordell Spots, Bayou Boogies ( with and without rattles ), Heddon Sonics and Super Sonics ( no longer made ).

Color ? chrome/black, chrome/blue, gold/black, firetiger, shad, golden shiner.

Somedays all they want is a trap, other days all the want is a RRR and so on, even though they are all lipless cranks they are not equal, they have different vibration and/or sound.

Imagine that, I just put away all my new Cordell Spots after changing out the top split rings with new oval rings and then attaching the removed split rings to the back hooks to lengthen them, works for me anyways.

Colors that I picked out: 2 chrome/blue back; 2 Gold/black back; 2 copper craw; 2 firetiger.

My preference is Rat-l-Traps the original and 99% of the time i throw Blue and chrome... mostly because i think they imitate the blue back herring really well and they can cause those reactions strikes with the chrome.

I generally hate a Bill Lewis Rat L trap.I do have the older double finned lewis trap that work better than the newer one fin traps.Its in the sound.

Woody, one color you should have picked up is Tomato. Oh and Rayburn red. and break down and buy Mustad triple grip hooks to put on them.You won't regret it.

I love traps although some people try to downplay them and call them idiot baits, saying anyone can fish on them.Yes one can cast it and reel it back and catch fish on them but there are things you need to do besides just cast and reel to consistantly catch fish with them.

Most of my answer-see Raul's post. I have drifted towards the magnum Rat l traps for size. Chrome/blue back, chrome/black, firetiger, shad. I change out the hooks, cut the leading treble off. I throw them a lot. I do use a few other brands but out of the 30 or so, 90% are the original traps.

Well i fish lipless cranks (traps) a lot year round. i have found red eyes and xcalibur to bethe best in 1/2oz. and 3/4 oz. never really fish 1/4oz. my main color are craw paterns and shad colors.

rat l trap my favorite colors are black and chrome, blue and chrome, and that sand bass color, all in 1/2 ounce.

Welcome. I use the lews brand lipless bait in a shad pattern or babby bass and i also replace the hooks with gamakatsu hooks.

Original traps are great bass catching lures but be sure to change the hooks, the original hooks are not very good. I did a fishing show on cable access a few years ago and did a great trap show, the thing I hyped on most was changing the hooks.

size depends on how deep you are fishing for me. if it shallow then a tiny trap if its 20+ then a one ounce. i do this to get it to the depth i want faster.

2 of my favorites as well.They just came out with a 1/4 & 3/4 oz. redeye and I picked up a couple.The finish on the red eyes are terrible for durabitlity.

I picked up the Rapala clackin shad.They are going to work on a cast,settle to the bottom and lift and drop presentation.I wish I had stumps and trees like Rodman rat has to fish.I think these traps would really shine fished in the wood ? P N J

i like the cotton cordell reyburn red, pnj sent me a bucket of these traps and man o man they work great...
Have had lots of luck with the crome n blue or blk also.
Got some red eye shad in crome for this year to play around with...

I have hundreds of traps, most of them are Bill Lewis and the range from 1/4 oz to 1 oz. In fact, when I lived in north Texas we start throwing them on Lake Fork and Sam Rayburn when the water reaches it's lowest temp (most years that would be in the low 40s). As stated already, Tomato and Rayburn Red are good colors, but Red Shad, and Red Chrome, Brown/orange crawfish are also good colors to have on. Other colors such as Sour grape and chartreuse tiger are good too.
The 1 oz traps are good for covering vast areas in dingy water. Most often the 1/2 oz traps are Texas go tos in the winter and early spring. The 1/4 oz traps in the chrome or baitfish colors produce well when the water warms up and the baitfish get active!
I use other brands of lipless baits as well, but I will always keep the original trap handy. I am also a fan of changing the hooks out on most of them. My replacements are usually Mustad or Owner.

RED Eye Sexy shad and blue gizzard hve been hot for me in the past couple months. friday i plan to try 3/4 xcalibur in foxy shad to see if i notice any diffrence. Iv'e had the most luck with a fast retrive then just killin it thats when they been hittin it latley.

I have about 40 or so but my favorite is the Lewis in Tequila Sunrise. Most productive is blue back chrome Lewis. I spray paint the bottom orange.

i used to throw that blue shad rapala trap thinking sooner or later something will kill it, but it never happened. I had that lure for years an years, but the other brands out performed it, Its nice to hear someone lists it as a good un capn mike!

i have box just for rattle traps. hahaha, the gang here KNOWS of the mrs bamabassman's favorite one. 1/4 ounce chrome with a blue back. and capt...i have the ones with an orange bottom, and they aren't AS productive as the ones without around here. alot of fellas around here swear by the tiger oranges in 1/2 to 3/4 size. but i haven't had as much luck with those. just the chrome with a blue back.

so to answer yoour question, yes i use the traps ALOT,lol.
