Default First Baitcaster!!!

I am getting my first baitcaster for Christmas... it is a Shimano Callisto. Got a question for you guys!

1. How do you put line on a baitcaster?
2. How do I know when I have the braking system set right?

That's all for now, Thanks!

Ryan

Take a look here:

http://pages.infinit.net/fishing/bait101.htm

To spool line on I thread it through the line guides and the winding mechanism, tape or tie the line on and fill it to within 1/8" of the top of the spool. I have someone hold the spool with a pencil through it, and if you are looking at the vertical spool I want the line to come up from the bottom of the spool and over the top of the reel. Think in terms of half a figure 8. Here is a link that explains it, only it shows the line coming off the top of the spool:

Reb gave you some sound advice.

Here is another thing you can do just this first time. Bring the reel with you to that tackle shop when you buy line for it. Most places will spool the line you buy at no charge. You can take mental notes on how they do it and it will get done right the first time.

The instruction link bait cast 101 is what I used to get me started about a year ago. You'll be side arm, underhand casting and pitchin' in no time flat. Good luck!
