Default Silicone Vs. Rubber Skirt

I've recently bought three different brands of jigs that I haven't tried them before. Those are made out of rubber skirts and hand-tied.

What is the difference between silicone and rubber?

The rubber skirt jig(specially round rubber skirted jig) seems to fall down a little slower than silicone jig to me. ??

Well howdy RayWill! Haven't seen you around in quite a while. Good to see you!

I haven't seen any real difference between the two, but then I really haven't paid that mich attention to it.

Silicone, to me, works well for spinnerbaits, but after tying many micro jigs, the jig action is much better with the rubber. On small jigs, the silicone seems a tad less active and therefore isn't as supple as the rubber concerning subtle movements. The rubber, in short, is much livlier and personally preferred.

Hope this helps, Mac

Reb, thanks for the warm welcome. I have been here all the time. There are better anglers who give good replies here than I do. As you know I am a weekend warrior fisherman, and it is still my the most favorite site.

Mac, how have you been?

I thought something had to be different because many tournament bass fishermen in CA use rubber skirt jigs. They must have some reasons for using these jigs that I don't know yet. Thanks again, Mac.

Ray,

Hi. Good to "hear" from you. Like Mac said

.

I prefer the original medium sized living rubber that was standard on jigs/spinnerbaits about 10 years ago. I still have some silicone skirts on spinnerbaits but the majority have living rubber. All my jigs have rubber...it "flairs" more. Silicone skirts have a very weak action. just my .02

Welcome back, playhooky. It's good to hear from you, too. Where have you been?

Thank you, zooker.

I will be fishing with these jigs for a while to see any difference for catching.
