Default switch boxes

I was having problems with my motor bogging down when throttling it up. It would finally catch and take off like a streak of lightning. Just got it back from the shop today, they replaced two of switch boxes. The machanic said the compression was good and the carborators were good. My question is what is switch boxes and what do they do. Replacing these was quite exspensive.

The switch boxes on a outboard are shall I say the brain of the igniton system on outboards. It tells the igniton system to give full timing advance when throttling up,which cylinder to fire and when to fire. You can have a problem with a switch box and never know it until its to late. Such as your motor firs up like yours, idles fine, like yours but when you shoot the coals to her nothing or a big lag, like yours before she catches up and takes off. Hope this clears this up for ya. If you need more answers I can get more involved in my explanation. Just give me a holler.
