Default Wondering about cable maintenance

I've noticed on my boat that the throttle has a dead zone between neutral and forward, but this seems okay. However, in reverse, I get little/no speed increase unless I pull back as far as it will go. No normally I don't really need much throttle in reverse, but I'm wondering if some cable maintenance might be in order when she goes in for winterizing in a few weeks???

I'll bite (try not to laugh) but what's a hot foot?
Now having said that, I'm not looking to spend much more cause when she goes in fer winterizing, I also wanna get the gas gauge fixed which I'm 90% sure is a new sending unit that will likely run me about $100.
Maybe I'll just have them inspect cables to see if adjustment or replacement is in order.

It's a throttle control device.

it is like a gas pedel on your auto. jsut goes in a boat. makes life much easier i think. i had a ranger YEARS........no........DECADES ago, lol. and it had a HOMEMADE hotfoot. gas pedel outta an old ford pickup i think. it worked, but don't ask me how to rig it up. buught it that way, haha. my present rig has a hotfoot. wouldn't know what to do with a conventional throttle now.

I hear you bama. Though i am relatively new to "owning" my own bass boat am very familiar with boats. Went out with a buddy of mine cupla weeka ago on his boat. He told me to go ahead and warm the motor up while he parked the trailer. His boat doesn't have one. Took forever to remember how to by pass the tranny so i could get his cold natured mercury running. The hot foot really helps starting cold natured outboards. (aren't they all? ) Not to mention the safety aspect. A properly installed/maintained hotfoot allows you to keep both hands on the wheel and you HAVE to keep your foot on the gas for the boat to go!
That and a streering wheel mounted or turn signal type trim switch and you always have both hands on the wheel.
Just my opinion...

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA ABBEY!!! well i can do the FORWARD THINGY PRETTY GOOD. BUT THE BACKWARD MOVEMENT JUST DON'T FEEL RIGHT. we in BAMA don't look back, just forward. hahahha.

sorry, the best i could do at the moment.

seriously though, once you get a hotfoot in your rig, you'll never know WHY they even have it on the side anymore. it IS almost like driving your auto. now if they can just figure out how to put a cruise control on one. they probably already have.
