Default 2 Cold Days.. 2 Warm Days

I've been hitting the water lately on a warm front day, sometimes 10-20 degrees warmer than the previous two days of cold temps, and have noticed that each time, the fish have not moved up shallow to feed. And the only bites I am getting are in deeper 10+ feet of water, and few bites at all. I was under the impression that most of the time when there is a warm day after some cold days, the fish this time of year will move shallow and feed as the top layer of water warms. Is this right?

What is going on with these fish and why are they still deep? Thanks.

as far as the midwest goes, this year has been WHACKY for bass. IM not finding them where I should, except about 10% of the time. Temps are in the mid to low 50s now and they STILL have not moved shallow. I dont understand fish.

The only thing that understands fish, is fish!
Try coves, and creekmouths.

The lake that i am fishing is a powerplant lake and the water temp on the cold side is still in the low 70s while the warm side is still in the mid 80s, so that might be a reason why the fish are acting weird by me. Also, at what temp do bass usually go up shallow to feed?

when fishing the hot hole lakes the pattern goes straight out the window. when it comes to what temp and where..

the one thing you can count on is when it is very cold most of the fish will move thru the hot hole to feed. kinda like standing in front of the fireplace on a cold day...

Wait for the weather to stabilize, one way or the other. Even if it's a high pressure for several days, a stable weather pattern will make a difference IMO.

I am discovering that air temp is not a reliable indicator. While it might be warmer (air temp) the water might still be be as cold as it was during the cold period.

I've had the opposite experience, weather getting colder and wet, and yet the water was still warm to the touch although I was freezing my phanny off. I found the only topwater in my bag and snatched my topwater bass. Cold to me, but still warm in the water for the bass.

If only we can ever know for sure about those wiley bass.

I have to agree with you MMIB. Here in NW Indiana, the bass should be in the shallows right now. I am usually killing them on spinnerbaits in water less that 8 feet this time of year. The last two trips out I've only caught 3 bass total in shallow water. I think the main problem here has been the fact that we went from summer to a late fall weather pattern overnight. The last several weeks it's been cold and rainy. Still there should be more shallow action than I'm seeing. I'd like to see what the bass would do with several days of warmer sunny waether. But since it'a almost November, I doubt I'll see that again till spring. HEYYYYY, how about those Cardinals!!!!

I can't begin to explain what fun it is to be a Cardinals fan in the heart of Cub country, hehe
