Default One Eye Bass

Sure , every one has probably caught a bass with one eye that works, the other is blind in, kinda whitish looking,
Ya hear others say the bass only saw your bait on his good side.lmao
I am guessing that somewhere in its growth
someone hooked it using a big hook and the barb went through his eye,
I think most of us have done that, Ya end up hooking them in all sorts of places by accident, usually the bait slips and another treble catchs a body part,
I have seen them hooked under the belly ,
and the rogues are notorious for clinging on to anything,
ya often see hook in mouth, back side of gillplate, and then its side...ouch

The other day I caught a bass on a rapala DT crankbait and when I hooked it it looked like the bottom of the treble had busted through the soft stuff in betwwen the hard lip part and the head. The treble and all three of its barbs were in between the lip and the head. I have no idea how it got there, but its jaw was seriosly messed up.

One time I hooked a bass so hard with a worm that the hook went strait throught the top of the head and killed it instantly. I must have hooked its brain.

I've had the hook poke the eyeball out of place before. The eye was still there, but definately moving around in ways that aren't natural.

However, they still have a decent shot, even with one eye. They also hunt via their lateral line, a sensitive place on the side of their body that picks up vibrations and tells them where food is located.

They've done tests before where they placed plastic cups over the bass's eyes and then put minnows in... the bass ate them all.

So the fish still has a good chance at survival, as long as you put them back!

You do know that keeping a gator is illegal!!!! And not only that but dangerous for you, others when released, and to the animal its self!

Okay new thought:
When i fish for Bluegill i usually always hook them through their eye socket not only does that proabably hurt its a pain to get the hook out after that!

a couple of weeks ago i was fishing a strike king stik bait, deadsticking it and a pickerel snagged it. so i reelit in lifted him up to get him on land and he fell off. i packed it up by hand and everything looked fine until i turnt it over, its eye was missing so i took a glance in the water and didnt see it. i went to cast out again and i realized the eye was on my back treble hook.

We were out Sunday evening, doing a little bass fishing. We were fishing a rock dropoff with a few overhanging trees.

I had a 3/0 Tru-Turn longshank and a Tequila Ribbon Tail. (<-- My Favorite) I threw under the trees, reeled slowly to the drop off. Had a good hit on my worm. I set the hook and as soon as I started reeling, I thought I had lost it. There was not enough resistance to the line. When I got it to me, I had a small bluegill on.

This thing had swallowed hook and worm both. I don't know how the little thing got it in it's mouth. Being a member of BASS, I tried my best surgery to save the little fella's life, but there was more hook there than I could work with.

The turtles seemed to like him though.
