Daiwa Fuego Spinning Reel
So, we got the father's day flyer for the BPS in Toledo and looking through the meager 3 pages of fishing stuff, and came upon a Daiwa fuego spinning reel. It's a 2008 model, originally 249.95. Now, before I go on, let me explain that I'm looking for a finesse rod and am almost decided on the St Croix Mojo Bass 7' M tube rod. It'll double as a finesse rod and throwing various baits for smallies.
Then after lots of thought and poking from the monkey, I decided to go with a Daiwa spinning reel over a pflueger. So I was thinking about the Tierra (129.95) or the TD Pro (BPS exclusing reel) (99.99, i think). I was gonna get the tierra, even though the blue finish will look horrible with the dark cherry mojo rod, lol. Then I found the fuego, which is now on clearance for 99.94!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Here's some features: Magnesium body and sidecover DigiGear digital gearing 7 bearings air bail twistbuster II a free spool and more I'm sure it's not as good as the new ones, but for 100 bucks (150 dollars off), and right in my price range, I really can't say no. Well I could, but the baitmonkey would have to punish me. I'm short like 20 bucks, but I'm leaving to do some yardwork for my grandma here soon, and that should get me enough for the reel. BB

The new ones look awesome, but you can't go wrong with an 08 for that price. I say go for it.

Same here BID. BB, you should feel guilty for charging Granny to do her yard work, hahahahaha, just playing, it is the same place I used to head for when I was short.

Hey now, I would do the work for free, but my grandma insists on paying me. and right now, that's my only source of fishing/gas money, so I'll take it.

My fishing partner saw that deal too and went there to test them. He said the reel isn't very smooth and felt out of balance, especially for a $250 reel. Maybe it was just the one he tried, but I would suggest a blind "feel" test between that and a competitor's $100 reel like a Symetre or Soron (Gander Mt. has $20 off those).

I read the review of the fuego on Tackle Tour and they said it's a decent reel. They said performance wise, it wasn't as good as the SOL, but I figure for less than what I was gonna spend on a the Tierra, a reel that costs twice as much has to be better. I'm not asking for Steez performance, but it HAS to be better than the tierra... right...?

lol mallen.
Anyways, I asked my dad to go down there every night since we got the add, and we couldn't until last night. I kept telling him, I hope they don't sell out. He kept telling me he's sure they won't sell many and they probably have quite a few to put them on sale that cheap. So, before we went last night, we called to check. Guess what?... Yep, they were out! So I told my dad that I knew they'd sell out if we didn't go sooner. And he said, I bet they didn't have many. and being such a high end reel for that price, they probably sold fast. I wish I'd have though of that! BB P.S. Now I'm done ranting for the day.

I realize you said you decided on Daiwa, over a Pflueger, but Cabela's has Quantum Catalyst for 55 bucks & Quantum Energy for 90 bucks.
Probably doesn't help you any but I'm bored so I thought I'd throw it out there just in case

Not had good experiences with shimano spinning reels although I've heard they're great. I will definately include it and the Saros when I try different ones.
