I had a chance to head out to the local pond while the wife took the kids to church. I caught 3 bass. Two seem to be smaller than the 3/0 hook. The third was about 1.25 lbs. I also caught a chain pickerel. This one was a lot larger than the last one I caught last year and had some pretty big teeth. I set the hook so hard on this poor guy that he had a 3 inch gash in his head were the hook was. He was 20 inches, about 2 lbs, and very angry. He was covered with weeds when I landed him, but with one shake, he was clean and I was wearing the weeds. Luckily I had my pliers with me so I could get my hook out without slicing up my hands.

nice little guy. if you think they've got some teeth, try a 42" musky, or even a 50"+ (which I've yet to catch). that little guy's just bait, lol. still a nice looking fish.

They hit hard and fast. If you are not quick to set the hook, you'll miss them. Notice the red line in his upper jaw? That is that 3 inch gash I mentioned earlier. I was actually fishing for bass and had a big topwater hit. I set the hook too early for bass and ended up setting it perfectly for the chain pickerel. Luckily they don't get too big in the local ponds.

Since it splattered me with water and weeds, I was not the slightest bit sorry that the hook gashed him. Plus he absolutely destroyed my last plastic lizard so I had to call it a night.
