Default the plan Saturday

I am fishing my cousin's pond again but I am carrying my depthfinder. I am going to do a little mapping of the deeper holes. May do more mapping than fishing. I need to know where the fish hang out when it is hot

The pond is fairly deep for this area. He says there are some holes over 20 feet deep. I am curious. He also claims there are bass over 10 pounds in it. I have caught a couple around 7 pounds. He has some carp in it so what seems big is not always bass.

Lot of the pond is between 7 & 10 feet deep. I found no holes deeper. Water is down over a foot from normal. Temperature drove me off the water after about 4.5 hours.

Hey Fred...Knowing the depth of the water and the contours of and structure on the bottom is valuable info. However, especially during summer, finding the thermocline is where your "depthfinder" really earns its price. I lease a nearby private pond thats over 50 acres and most of the water is over 15' with lots of 20-30' water. Every summer the thermocline will set up at about twelve feet. All I do is find areas in that depth range that intersect with cover/structure/bait/ and its on! GOOD lUCK kEN

I'm sure you've studied the effect of the thermocline on bass...but if you have specific questions about it or how to tweek your particular depthfinder to show it....feel free to pm or email me.
