30 bucks is a little low for a good rod. you need to spend at least 60 to 70. i spent 90 on mine and 80 for my reel

If you really shop around, you can get a good rod for cheap, I paid 45$ for my falcon lowrider(a 100+ dollar rod), it turns out that one shop gives you half off your rod, if you buy a reel too, and spools you up for free. Shop around the local tackleshops, they have the best deals.

You could try an ugly stick. They are pretty good for a cheap rod.

I fish with top quality rods from Wally World.

I think I paid 18.00 for my last rod. I have never heard a bass tell me that he wished I would have caught him on a 100 dollar rod. I know that more expensive rods may feel better, but I tell people to just get what they can afford.

Wally World sells Shakespeare rods for 7 bucks each and they do a great job for what they cost. Trust me, the fish don't care what rod you are using to catch them. I even use the Shakespeare open face reels that you can get for 20 bucks.

I paid 150 for a Quantum baitcaster with Med/Hvy rod and I can't stand to use it. When I want to use a baitcaster I use a Rhino that I found on clearance at Wally World for 15.00 with one of those 7 dollar rods and I like it more than the Quantum. Call me crazy, but they give me the feel that I like and have better luck with them.

Yes, support your local baitshop, the price might be a little higher, but they will get what you want, generally have a good selection of things that actually work in your area, and know what'g going in in the local lakes.
One day the big box marts will run all the little guys off, and we'll be forced to hunt around on the internet to find good tackle and baits

YES!! I hate shopping for fishing stuff at wallys, but sometimes its a necessity (if your too young to drive), there is only one thing that they seel that other places dont: renegade worms, and I happen to go through bundles of these. I love my loacal tackleshop(s) though, and they all know me by name, because I practically live there.

No problem eyes, you might save a buck at Wal-Mart, but they don't call you by name when you walk in

Dick's has some stuff I buy, but only because they are everywhere anymore. Man do I miss my old Galyan's. They have a lot more sporting apparel then fishing stuff. Give me a BPS, and I might just spend the night LOL.

dampeoples, the only local one here quit carrying anything other than fly fishing stuff this year. I have to drive nearly an hour to get anything. I am still happy to say I have only been into one WalMart one time in the past five years. It is important to support small business whenever possible, since I own half of one that started a couple months ago.

Yeah, I'm so lucky, cause were getting a gander mountain, I would much rather spend my money on them, as opposed to Wallys, because they are outdoorsmen. I still will buy from my loacal tackleshop, but gander mountain has a way better selection.

i agree dampeoples, also when you start going more, they start to hook you up with deals and ****, and fix some stuff for free. like my rod tip snapped on a pike hookset, and he fixed it for free. it is only a few dollar fix, but still. He gave me a few deals on rods and things too.

Well usually, if you buy your rod from a local tackleshop, they'll fix the tip if it breaks. My tackleshop gives awesome deals on combos, to me and my dad.

thats why i support the local shops instead of corporate companies..IMO, they have better deals and better services than most big companies..they are also very knowledgable about the area...
