FYI You guys were right, that offer I recieved thru Craigslist last week was a TOTAL SCAM. I am admittedly a bit naive on the workings of sales sites such as Craigslist, Ebay, ect. Thanks again !!!

I went to purchase a boat off of craigslist, and the boat i was about to buy wasn't titled, and i called the man out becasue it is illegal to sell a boat or outboard in sc without it being titled, and the person sounded confused, so he went to title it and found out he bought the boat illegally himself, and last i heard if he could not find the person who sold it to him, he sould have to pay a fine...

I sold my Skeeter in Arkansas by talking to the guys at a local bank who let me put it on their parking lot. People started calling almost immediately. That does two things I think, 1) it's more visible to the public and they are more likely to stop and look than just call you up, and 2) they think it's repo'd and that they may be able to get it cheap.

In Arkansas a boat does not have a title, the trailer does, but the boat does not.

i wish sc was that way, in sc the outboard and the boat has to be titled not the trailer, it was a great deal, 17ft fiberglass boat, already wired and just needed a motor. the seats needed to be installed which were included but other than those it was good, came with a trailer it was a 1998 hydrasport, and it all worked, the man bought it and was going through a divorced and said he would rather give it away than his wife get it, it was being sold for 300 dollars, but then it was not titled....

well my question is this. if you cash it and hold on to the money, what will they do when they don't get the "leftover" money? hehehehe(evil laugh here).

Could you not cash the check at the bank it is drawn from and keep the money?
Keep the money in a savings account for a month. If it clears and you don't hear from the bank then call the buyers back and ask them where to send the boat because their check cleared. See what they say then.

They'll soon be asking you to not send the boat but wire the money and keep some for your troubles. Tell them you don't feel comfortable wiring money, but you'll mail them a check or use paypal. See if you can con them into giving you a legitimate address or paypal account. Then turn the information over to the authorities.
