Default "a product know to cause cancer and.."

What is it with this statement on almost everything fishing ? "This product contains a chemical known to the states of califonia to cause cancer and birth defects and other reproductive harm". That was posted on the back of my new Shimano Citica box. I can see it on lead weights , but on a reel ??

I'm beginning to think so, lol.

I really don't know what there would be in a reel that would cause cancer. And why only in California?!

I would imagine lead somehow, since the wording is the same. Something mecanically or maybe the paint must contain lead.

Wow! That's weird!? Lead on a reel.

I can see lead paint like muddy said, but that would defiantly add weight a little more weight. You'd think that they would use some other kind of paint. I doubt it adds much though.

If it is indeed lead in a reel, I would imagine it is part of a counterbalance to some revolving component. In that case, using the densest material would make sense.

That is a required statement on many on all types of fishing tackle that many manufacturers are required to put on their products even if there isn't any lead. I think it was the state of California that mandated this. The product might or might not have lead. I think Shimano has something about this on their web page somewhere.

I wouldn't waste another worry wart on this.

Either that, Islandbass, or the part of the reel California has a problem with is fun. We simply can not have any of that.

Hey guys, I found it. I'm getting old, but somehow, my brain was able to access this from when I saw it quite a while ago. Too bad it doesn't work as well when I misplace something like my cell phone or keys. Doh!

WJ,

No kidding! When I heard that peanut butter was carcinogenic (don't think it's really true), I thought, if it really is carcinogenic, then I'm going to die happy eating it.

This may be a shocker to some of you, but we're all gonna die one of these days.
