Default Having Trouble With Fluorocarbon

On a spinning reel at the end of a cast , before the bail is closed, some times a lot of coils jump off the spool. Real easy to get a mess. Think I put the line on in the right direction. Can any enlighten me?

Hey Pampy, can you give us a little more info, such as what brand of line you are using, and what pound test it is. Also a little info about the reel you are using may be helpfull also.

Vicious would be the culprit. That stuff is like bailing wire.

There's a article on Gary Klein and his technique. He actually fishes a spinning reel a LOT and he ALWAYS hand closes the bail at the same time as the lure hits the water. Kinda like we use our thumb to stop a overrun on a bait casting reel.

I personally us my pointing (not middle) finger and touch the spool to stop the line on the smaller spinning reels but that won't work on the larger ones due to SHORT fingers.

Fluro does have more resistance to bending than mono so a technique like Klein uses is a must.

For starters, I'd make sure you don't have the reel too full. Then, give KVD Line and Lure a try. This stuff really works. Also, if you're using a very small reel, that may be the cause. Try a larger reel or a lower lb test.

If these things don't help, I'd recommend Seaguar InvisX.

This is a interesting post. I have used several floros on a Soron and a Trion spinning reel. I've used Trilene 100% and a BP floro. I put on 8lb line. I've had many problems such as curling, etc. I've almost given up to just using Mono and braid with floro leader. I don't really want to drop to 6 lb, I know 6 can work, but feel it may be kind of lite for comfort, mostly psychological I guess. I fish in a river, flowage system with many ROCKS, wood. I also can hook into many larger species of fish when going after Bass. I will continue to try different brand Floro though. I'm also carefull not to overfill my reel. This can cause problems with most any type and brand of line on spinning reels

Overfilling the spool can cause the loops jumping off like you descibe, and a line that is very stiff will too. I use P-Line Premium CX and don't have a problem.

Old Hooker,
I've been meaning to try that brand. I'm kind of surprised that I haven't. In the many seasons I've been on the water, I think I've used most brands made. I'd like to find a Floro that has the characteristics of Mono, but so far no luck. Perhaps I'll try some of the brands from Japan. Many new brands starting to come from there. They use quite a few finesse techniques because of the high fishing pressure that they have.

As BB recommends, try Seaguar InvisX...expensive but very good line. I've had good luck with 6 & 8 # lines. A little 'line conditioner' sometimes helps also.
