Default Have you guys settled on your fishing line brands?

Since there are a plethora of line types and brands I was wondering who has graduated from experimenting with lines to being dedicated to their favorite brands. I consider myself fairly new to bass fishing as I grew up with Dad and uncles on Zebco spincast reels fishing with night crawlers, minnows, and corn. It wasn’t until I finally dipped my foot in the spinning reel world that I started bass fishing and becoming more interested tackle. Thus my experiment began with the fishing lines. So I had to grow up in my learning about lines in that I had to quit buying into the hype machine for all those different lines that are out. I experimented but now I’ve settled on my favorite brands for the types I use. Well kinda.
Monofilament:
1. Trilene XL & XT
a. Bass Pro Shops Excel
Braid:
1. Power Pro
b. Suffix Performance Braid
Fluorocarbon:
1. Vicious

I hear good things about the new Suffix 832 braid. Anyone try it yet? Expensive.

I'm still using Trilene XL on most of my reels, I know some don't care for it
but I trust it!

Yup....

Power Pro50lb, 65lb and 80lb
Floro-Seagar either InvisX or AbrasX
10-12lb Berkley Big Game Mono.

I have fish just about everything out there and for me found these to be the strongest, best knot strength, reliable, sensative and fits my needs to a T.

I am however curious about the Stren Floro/Braid. I just read about and it looks interesting but for me if it "Aint broke, Dont Fix It"

For the most part, yes.

Mono: Sufix Elite or Siege
Fluorocarbon: Seaguar InvisX (have yet to try AbrasX, but will this year. Also want to try a Sunline product)
Braid: Sufix Performance Braid (haven't put enough time into fishing the 832 to determine if I prefer it. Also want to try Daiwa Samurai Braid)

From what I've read, the main thing about the fluorobraid is that it sinks where most braids float. Sufix 832 also sinks due to increased density from the Gore fiber.

Always open to new things, but I mostly stick to Vicious Fluorocarbon, Sufix Siege, Sufix Elite, and Berkley Fireline Braid.

For me, I am a cheapskate so it is Trilene XL on almost everything, but am testing new stuff. This year I will test Suffix Elite. As for flouro, i only use it in 8lb test on a spinning setup...and i dont fish enough heavy cover to have braid all teh time, but when i spool a reel with it, it is usually BPS brand braid.

Shortt answer as fo right now...

Mono: Trilene XL
Braid: BPS
Flouro: Trilene 100% Flourocarbon

Braid and Copoly - Pline

Straight Mono - Berkley Big Game

Fluoro - haven't found one I care too much for yet.

I haven't used mono in years. I like co-polymer line for most applications on a baitcaster. I've tried flurocarbon, but keep going back to co-polymer. My brand preference is Yo-Zuri Hybrid (both the regular and UltraSoft if you prefer a little less memory). I will use braid on a baitcaster when fishing frogs or jigs.

With most spinning gear I prefer Suffix braid. I like the suppleness of the braid, it won't jump off the reel like flurocarbon or the co-polymer lines, and I use spinning gear primarially for finesse applications where the no stretch braid is a bonus in detecting a bite. I use 20# mostly, lighter braid gives me fits with wind knots. I almost always use a f/c leader with braid - mainly so I can break off hangups easier, and not break off the more expensive braid. I have one (technique specific) spinning reel I spool with 15# Yo-Zuri UltraSoft co-poly, and I use that for skipping docks. I think the co-poly has a little better abrasion resistance than braid for getting fish out from under docks.

Another benifit of the Hybrid is the actual breaking strength is about 30% above the line test, so the 15# line is about equal to 20# mono. It's really good line.

I mostly use Yo-Zuri too. I use and like Power Pro, Spiderwire, and a few other braids. I used to use Magna-flex mono but can't find it anywhere.

For braid I've been using Power Pro, but this year I'm trying the new Suffix 832. My crankbait lines were Suffix Elite mono last year and I like that line enough to give it another shot this year. Although I'm toying with the idea of trying out 12# PLine Flouroclear for my crankbaits. I've been using 20# PLine Flouroclear for my pitchin needs lately and really like that one. I'll stick with it again this year. My spinnerbait rods were spooled with Big Game last year, and untill I run out of it I'll continue with it. I tried it out last year to see just how this cheap stuff works as so many guys seem to like it and I must admit, I was suprised by how well it performed. It really takes a beating! I used to LOVE Bagley Silver Thread when I could get it in green, but it's apparently not available in green anymore.

I don't really care for fluoro, I use Pline primarily with a hodge podge of braids thrown in the mix.

Really? I didn't know that 832 sunk. I have tossed around the idea of trying out fluorobraid for the sinking factor.

I didn't know that 832 would sink either. I was thinking of trying it out on my new froggin outfit, but if it sinks I'm going to stick with Power Pro.

I'm pretty much set in my ways at this point. Experimenting with new lines can get expensive.

Mono- Trilene XL
Braid- Sufix Performance

Mallen, I've thought about trying Sufix Performance braid. Untill now, I've been a Power Pro man. Have you tried both, and if so, why do you prefer the Sufix?

I only use Mono
Trilene XL and Stren Original , what ever is on sale when I am stocking up. Has served me well for many years.

I also used to use BPS Excel and Cabelas Proline, but in the end they had consistency issues

I had some saltwater guys tell me that DSB would break under rated strength. If you want to try some killer braid, check out Jerry Brown Hollow Core or Fins XS solid.Hollow core braid lays flat under tension its does not dig as bad as solid core braid.

I'm always open to trying new line but primarily use Power Pro for braid, Seaguar Invisx flourocarbon, Pline fluoroclear for cranks and jerkbaits, Seldom use mono but have used Trilene XL and Suffix Seige.
