Default Does This Reel Come with......

...a FISHING GUIDE?

http://www.cabelas.com/casting-reels...:referralID=NA

Is this just too extreme?
Anyone have one or used one or even handled one?
Highly rated reel even models without DC.
Would you fear using it due to fear of losing or damaging it? (mostly cosmetic, cause seems to really have quality parts and bearings ect.)
Maybe the fear of dropping it in the lake, keeps it safely at home.
Pro Reel, can a reel like this still need a 'super tune', or is it basically already super tuned?

The Calais is a refined and well performing reel that I feel falls more into the "entusiast" category but they can be improved upon to some degree. The DC seems to work well but is not fool proof either. There is a learning curve in setting it up. For my money, a Core fishes just as well and is lighter.

I have the GPS co-ordinates for one Ike threw overboard - I can let you have them cheap.....................

You must not have checked your new Bass Pro Shops catalog if you missed the new Diawa PX type-R baitcaster. $500 bucks and no chip backlash control is included. Just a regular, dare-I-say "ordinary" baitcaster for $500. I like good equipment but I can't justify that kind of money as a "recreational" angler.

If they were just a little more affordable I would own one. Wish Shimano would filter down some of the things they done with Calais to the working mans reels, ie bearing in the levelwind.

Holy crap I never knew the Calais had that Digital Control or w/e it is.

I've never even heard of that crap.

I have always loved high end gadgetry when it comes to any of my hobbies. Id love to try one out, but unless I got it for free I would not buy one.

They've got the same technology in the round Calcutta as well. Want to see another crazy expensive Shimano reel? Check out the Stella spinning reel.

Those are beautiful reels! I don't even want to know how much they cost.

These reels are designed for skishing.

I got to play with that baitcaster for about an hour. Could flip the length of the test pool with it. If the spool is empty give it a spin and wait about 4 minutes to stop.

Greatest show ever now long gone was held at a private olympic pool.

Hmm that reel and that method are a surefire way to catch bull to great white sharks,uh once one entices them to eat the seal imitation, just how does one insure a swift safe release.

That they are but are you up to treading water in a wet suit in salt water attempting to use one?Suspect some do it in test pools indoors called skishing. If it’s large enough it drags you across the surface as you reel it in! Hence the name “Skishing”, water skiing + fishing = skishing. Get it?
Sort of a human buzzbait for saltie toothie critters.

The grey thing is a counter weight. No bail arm either.

Make note of the leash to keep the VS from being lost.

Shimano put the DC technology in a Scorpion reel this past year. First time it has been implemented in a small reel like the Scorpion. On sale now at japantackle.com for only $327.

Too bad the exchange rate sucks so much right now, or it would almost be worth it to import some of these JDM reels.

Does anybody know of any real world tests done to show if casting distance was increased on the reels with the DC braking? I'm not about to get one, the regular Calias is enough, but I am just curious if the extra $250 is more of a "convenience" thing so you don't backlash or if it actually increases performance.

Even if I could afford one, I'd never buy one. I'm sure it's a beautifully engineered reel and fishes great. But I hate the whole idea of a digital cast control. I'd rather have a good reel that I learned to use honestly, not through some computer. Plus, I'd be afraid to fish it, not sure whether or not this sucker could take a good while of "fishing." Is it like a computer where it slows down and stops working after a while?

Also, what OS does it run on!
