Default McDonald's & Nanofil

What do they have in common?

Badabababah...I'm lovin it!

The Nanofil anyways. Not so much the McDonald's.

Last Sunday, I picked up a spool of 17# Trilene XL. Monday I picked up a spool of 12# Nanofil.

Obviously, this comparison has a ton of variables. Like the 5# test difference (I was hoping Gander had 17# Nanofil)...or the fact that I don't know when either spool was actually produced.

For the test, I used a Daiwa Exceler rod. 6'6 MH 1/4-1 oz, 8-17 lb line, with a Pflueger President 6740.
I was throwing a 3/16 oz bell sinker
Obviously, not a casting machine by any stretch of the imagination.

Obviously, I spooled up the Trilene first.

I planned on casting several times with each line, but since all 3 Trilene casts came within 3' of each other, it was 3 and done.

Re-spooled with the Nanofil. First cast was past all 3 Trilene results when it hung up in a pine tree. Next couple casts landed safely. The 4th cast still has my sinker caught on a branch around 15' high. 5th cast came down safely

At this point, the Trilene casts averaged 65'. The Nanofil casts averaged 88'.

I felt I was holding back on the Nanofil due to the tree issues, so I moved to another area and after 4 casts, averaged 96'.

That result ties in pretty damm close to the "50% further" that Nanofil claims.
I really think that once you put on a heavier weight/bait, the results will improve even more. The Nanofil comes off the spool so smoothly, that I had a lot of loose line on the ground once the weight landed.
I believe this is why I was hung up in the trees twice.

So far, I am very impressed. I'll be throwing heavier baits with it tomorrow. I won't be measuring distance, but I should have a solid feel for the distance.

If I get any bites I may have an inkling as to it's stretch.

There is no doubt it casts much further than any other line I've used, but like a lot of others have experienced, I broke off on the hook set for the only two senko hits I had when I used it. It's been years since I broke off on a hook set even once, let alone twice. I'll be interested to see what your experience is with it when you get a fish on. Hopefully it will work better for you than it did for me.

Here is a link to reviews of this line from the BPS site.

That is a point a few reviewers made, as well, watterboy. It definitely has me concerned.
20 bucks for 150 yards is a bit pricey, unless it's pretty much flawless.
That's braid and fluoro pricing

Part of me really wants to try it again, but I just don't know if I can bring myself to do that. My current plan is to strip it off and put some of my "old faithful," InvisX, on.

That would be a tough call.
On one hand, you would be throwin away 20 bucks. On the other hand, you could possibly be catching fish with Invisx, that you may have lost with Nanofil

Maybe after you haul in a couple lunkers with it and post about how great it is, I will want to try it again.

I gave it an honest shot for about half a season in #10 and #12. Line casts like a dream and transmitted bites really well even with a bow in the line. The abrasion resistance is terrible and frays too much. It coils/twists more than any line ive used and i have a lot of experience with #10 braid and under as i fish walleye a lot. I didnt ever break off on any hook sets. I switched to 10/2 pp super 8 slick and wont shy away. Amazing line.

In 6-8 week's, nanofil is coming out with up to 17# test in high vis yellow, green(i think) and the clear mist. Wont be trying it.

Still haven't really had the chance to test it on a solid hookset, but the line keeps casting further and further, it seems.

EXTEREMELY sensitive. I'm feelin every rock and weed, it seems like.
