Default Swim Jig Trailers

So I have a Bluegill Colored swim jig from Strike King. What color trailers do you like for matching the Bluegill pattern? I am lookin at buying some skinny dippers as trailers and wanted yoru input on color selection.

Here is what I used last year on my Strike King KVD swim jig in bluegill pattern. I did very well with it! I'd stay with a color similar or perhaps a bit darker. Bluegill tails tend to be dark. The picture is the Optimum Double Diamond Swimmer. It has great action behind a jig that you can really feel. Kevin got me started on these. This year, I'm going to try both the Yum Money Craw and Strike kings rage craw in a similar color or darker.

I agree with Keith. I usually use trailers from the watermelon or green pumpkin families when I use bluegill colored swim jigs. I bought some Double Diamond Swimmers like Keith has pictured but I haven't used them yet. I have had some luck with Big Bite Baits Cane Thumpers on swim jigs, they look a lot like Skinny Dippers.

Swim jigs are awesome. For trailers I throw usually a Zoom Utravibe Craw

Try a 5" Kalins Grub, they make awesome swim jig trailers.

I like either a Kalin's grub or a Paca Chunk. Those have a tot of action. I got a pack of those Double Diamond swimmers recently too but I haven't tried them yet.

I recently made a switch in my swim jig trailers. I was using boot tail style jer baits and I had some luck. One day when the water was particularly cloudy, I wanted something that would kick up a lot of water and decided to try a soft bodied frog. I have been very pleased with the results. I am using the ribbit frogs and feel that I can match the colors pretty well with. I cut of the heads and they fit perfectly. I will sometimes melt the heads onto 12" worms to make snakes.
I find that these let me give a slower presentation in cloudy or heavily vegitated waters.

I saw one pro recently using a horny toad as his jig trailer. Made some sense.

There are a lot of 3-4" plastic paddle tail swim baits that can be used too.

Color selection???
Bluegill color or sunfish or perch.....to match the species that you want to match
Unless you want to mimic a crawfish then go with brown and orange (or GP)
Or a shad then go with a black and white swim bait

My friend caught a 8+lb on that same jig with a Houdini shad zoom swim fluke. It looks real good in the water

I use a swing impact for swim jigs, on scroungers, or by themselves.

all depends, I like grubs (single, twin tail, and twin tail skirted ) , beavers ( rigged horizontal or verticle) , pork, swimmin chunks whatever. I dont generally use swimbaits as trailers though, I have better luck with them on their own. Just my .02
