Default What style worm hook is your go-to?

I'm not talking about brand as much as am style. But for like a standard 4 - 7.5" worm, what kind of hook you gonna be using? Off set, wide gap, or just a "J" hook. I've heard that a J hook will get you better hook up... what do you have to say about that? Folks also say they don't hold the worm well. While that's clear as to why, would it help to put a piece of rubber band down the hook after you hook the head through, and press it up to the neck of the worm to hold it in place.

Thanks in advance!

As of late, I have been throwing the J hook more and more. While it is true that they do not hold the bait does not hold as well, I have been happy with the hook up results. I do not find that the baits tear much and it simply means that I have to adjust the bait more often.

wide gap, no particular reason. I believe someone on this forum suggested it to me.

Tie a Uni Knot with some old 6-10# line on the shank & slide it up to the worm. My way is cheaper ;}

I also use Tru-Turn HitchHikers too. Try screwing the worm from the bottom for a different action.

I'm not sure if Tru-turn hooks would be concidered a style?....maybe thats concidered "cam action hooks"....either way i've always been a believer in them and have caught more fish on worms using them then anything else......if I fish larger creature baits, plastic frogs or even tubes I like to use the wide gap hooks.

Thanks guys!

The line seems like a pretty good idea also! I've got a few of them hitch hikers too, I'll also try that!

Them tru-turn hooks are good for bream though! Never really thought about using them for bass though. The only time I used them for bass was on a baby brush hog when I ran out of wide gap hooks!

The Owner CPS Springs work much better than the kind without the centering pin.

From those three it´s evenly spread between EWG and Off set. EWG for beefy baits, off set for worms.

I have been a fan of EWG hooks for a long time, but lately i've been playing around with a hook called a skip gap. I guess it would be a offset hook of some sort but it holds plastics up better than any hook i've ever used.

Ya, I've used them too! There're good for tubes, but I don't really like 'em for anything other than that, I'm sure they would be good on a Gary yammaoto flappin' hog, or any other wide bait.

Thanks for all the answers guys, same to the poll voters!

Usually wide gap , but i recently picked up some large j hooks that have barbs near the eye off the hook to hold the bait in place and those have been killer , also I have been using j hooks for creature baits for a while now exclusively .

Wide gap worm hook. It's easy to Texas rig worms with those. I hate just plain off-set worm hooks. I use the "j" hook for my wacky rigged Senko's.

i used to use ewg but if a big bass eats the whole worm sinker and all, the bullet weight would pop the fishes mouth open on the hookset and since the point of an ewg hook is inline with the line and sinker the hook would come out of the open mouth. but on smaller fish the ewg hooks work pretty good. to bad i had to miss alot of fish before i figured it out.

Hey, that a cool bit of info, thanks!

What do you use more consistently though? Off set... J?

Yeah, I've used them, though, I don't like them for worms and stuff.

I use a wacky-rigged senko (7") almost exclusively for my worm fishing, and for that I use the 1/32 oz weedless version of the Lip-Stick hook from Northland.

I have started using EWG here lately. But I think I like the J-hooks better. Just the cheap Laser hooks from Wal-Mart.
