Default Drop Shot Hooks

Know I haven't posted in a long time, blame it on being so busy. But I was wondering what kind of hooks you like to use on your drop shots? I have issues trusting tiny circle hooks that just don't look like they can hook big bass. So what are your preferences?

for the gammys what size do you use? it says 4,2, or 1. Is that like 4/0, 2/0 in reference?

Here's a web link to a site called "The Ultimate Bass Fishing Resource Guide"...

http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/drop-shot.html

If you are not already familiar with it, this site contains an array of writing about drop shot techniques and gear.

I use the Gammy dropshot hooks, size 1 almost exclusively. Haven't lost a fish yet.

No, those are sizes like trebles come in. the larger the number, the smaller the hook. Most bass hooks usually come in x/0 sizes, which in the scale of say 4, 2, 1, 1/0, 2/0, 3/0, etc. could be considered negative numbers in the "larger the number, smaller the hook" thing.

The Gamakatsu DS/SS hooks are finesse hooks, and are like the hooks you say you don't trust. I also use them, although not the red ones. I mainly use a size 1 for DS worms and such, but will move up to a size 1/0 for thicker bodied baits like flukes.

These are great hooks that, if you're using proper gear, you shouldn't be afraid of. If you're using the true dropshot method of spinning gear (or light casting gear), light line, and small hooks, you should be using a reel with a good drag. If you're reel has a good smooth drag (not necessarily strong), you won't have a problem with the light line or the small hooks.

If you're using to what is referred to as a Bubba Shot rod (basically, a scaled up version of the DS (heavier line, bigger hook, heavier weight, stouter tackle) then you would probably be better of using a regular EWG hook that you'd use for t-rigging.

I like a #1 or #2 Owner Octapus hook in the black. Not a fan of red hooks in general.

This hook with it's upward pointiing business end will usually stick in the cartlidge in the roof of a fishes mouth on the hook-set and stays there.

It depends on the situation... but my main hooks are the Gammy Split Shot/Drop Shot Hooks, or the Finesse Wide Gap hook if I am going for smallies. Sizes for both hooks are 1 and 1/0.

There is a good video about it right here on this site, no need to look elsewhere.

I like the Gammy drop shot and octopus #1 hooks. The octopus hooks sag down a little further. I learned I have to be easier to set the hook to the way it bends, just apply pressure and the tip rolls in to place and then set. I missed few before reading up on this. But I seldom loose a fish on the octopus.

Gammy SS/DS here too. I like size 2 most of the time. They are super sharp and with light tackle I've naver had trouble. Some of the other hooks out there have too heavy wire. Many times you don't even feel the bite so a sharp hook that works "automatically" is best.

I had a long talk with Gary Dobyns about dropshotting. He reccomended to me these hooks. http://www.outdoorproshop.com/Robowo...barb-hooks.htm I have been using them for about 6 months and with out a doubt they are great hooks. They keep the worm straight, really help with the snags that can come with dropshotting and have a great hook up ratio. Just my .02

I too depend on the Gammy DS and finesse hooks. I'll be trying some Stand Out Hooks like Daiichi makes this year. I feel one of the keys to getting the most out of this rig is to get the hook sticking straight out from the line. Proper knots usually do the trick but I'm going to experiment.

I've had pretty good success with the Owner mosquito hooks. Size 2 mostly, but sometimes I use a 1.

If the bait and conditions warrant, I sometimes use a 2/0 EWG Gammy and hook the bait texas style to make it weedless.

I have caught decent sized bass on hooks as small as a panfish #10... but generally for drop shots I tend to stick with the 4 to 1/0 range depending on the lure size I am using.

I use the Gammy Finesse Wide Gap in size 1. They are a thicker wired hook than the SS/DS and they have a wider gap(hence the name)for a better hookup ratio.
