Default MN fishing is over for another year

Well, the boat has been pulled from the lake for the first time since April, winterized, and put in the garage for another off-season. The dock and lift have been pulled up on dry land, and all the yard work has been done, so our cabin is officially closed until April or May of 2013. This marks the end of my 2012 fishing in MN, but I hope to get down to IA one more time for some shore fishing with my dad.

Now I have nothing to do for 6-7 months except slice and dice my fishing spreadsheet numbers and buy a bunch of gear/lures that I don't need just to keep the monkey happy. Good thing Cabela's is less than 5 minutes from my house!

What a sad site!

Oh well, time to go see Dad in Iowa this weekend.

He'll like it, you'll like, but after your last resort fishing weekend.....I'm guessing the Bass won't!

Unfortunately, there will be no trips to IA or fishing until November. Big project going in at work this Saturday, so I have to be here for that, and next weekend I'll be volunteering with hundreds of others in the community to pack over 200,000 meals for a "Feed My Starving Children" event.

Yep, it is always a sad day when we close, but it is also a time to reflect on how fortunate and blessed we are to have this place that we will retire to someday and that we get to share with others. We had another great year of fishing and made many more great memories with family members and friends (only 177 days until we open again in 2013! ).

Hope you have a great day on Saturday an enjoy your last day out!

That's a shame. I have enjoyed your pics and posts even before I joined. I have a hard time wrapping my mind around a 5 month fishing season, heck I've never been North of Atlanta.....ever...and that was only once, and I hated it.

Thanks, RF...glad you enjoy my posts/pics. All I know is a short fishing season...at least on open water anyway. I have ice-fished a few times, but it's not really my thing. Maybe in a few years when I'm retired and live right on the lake I will give it a more earnest try.

Default Nice flat bank to the lake. You're a lucky man.

My boat goes in storage this week. Yuk!! It's always a sad day.
Highs in Iowa are supposed to be in the 40's -50's later this week.

Yep, back when we were looking for a place, we were pretty picky about it. We knew we wanted to be able to use it as a place to retire to someday, and we also wanted to be able to share it with family and friends (from toddler age to older parents and everything in between), so a nice level yard to the water was one of our prerequisites. Since we weren't in any hurry, and because we were being quite particular with what we wanted, the search lasted for 2+ years. We knew we had found the right place for us when we first saw it and were fortunate to end up buying it.
