Woody I came back to the Gulf Of Mex in May so I am back to a14/14 day schedule. I am trying to convince my relief to swap to 21/21? We shall see. I am hoping for the best.

Ohhh.. OK, Garey.

Well, I am glad to hear that you aren't as far from the Family as you used to be.

Like you said, "Lord willing."

Default David L. Hayes- World Record Smallmouth Bass- 11lbs. 15oz.- Dale Hollow 1955

I found these photos on Punisher Lures facebook page.

David L. Hayes and Punisher Lures Stephen Headrick with Hayes' WR Smallmouth. 1955

The actual lure D.L Hayes used to catch WR

Here's an interesting article written on Bassmaster about D.L Hayes. It's an interview the writer had with Hayes. Hayes recounts that July day in 1955 that put him in the record books.

Woody, one thing that I ought to mention...

While I am going to do everything in my power to get up there for the get together, my financial line is going to be ugly at that time. Which may mean I am going to be stuck camping, even sleeping in the truck. I dont mind that, I just dont want people depending on me to throw in for room, cause I might not be able to do that...

I think I will...I just realize that I gain almost nothing paying for renting a cabin when I am always jsut as happy camping or sleeping in the truck. The last summer I made sleeping at truckstops and rest areas a science.

That's what I call freedom.

And I can just imagine you've got a colorful story or two, about your odyssey last summer? care to share?

I keep meaning to do an ultimate picture thread, but there is just too much, it would take days.

I didn't have many incidents out there with locals causing trouble. I guess the craziest thing I did was drive through death valley in my truck with no AC, late in the evening, having to stop several times to make it. You don't realize from its reputation, but death valley is the worst place on earth not just cause if the heat, but because you have to decend 3k feet into it, then climb 3k in the middle, then decend again, then climb again before you are out...its a transmission killer. It smells like sulfur, and your body aches from all the pressure changes.

The other crazy thing was the 32 mile backpacking trip into the bighorns, where I got hailed on and almost hit by lighting on top of a 10k mountain. Ended up catching the elusive golden trout. All that work for a 8 inch trout, and I feel like it was totally worth it.

But all in all, I'll just list the places I checked off...

Alamo
Llano River - Guadelupe Bass
El Paso
Petrified Forrest
Canyon De Chelly
Monument Valley
North Rim Grand Canyon
Zion National Park
Vegas
Death Valley
Fished Yosemite...nothing, but at least I didnt get hanta virus
Fished Mccleod river and a trib near Mt Shasta, caught several browns and rainbows
Crater Lake
Umpqua River- 5 lb smallie
Camped on the pacific, fished tillamook area
Portland
Willamete river
Columbia river
Deschutes river
Hosmer lake atlantic salmon
Kokanee, brook trout in mt hood national forrest
Clackamas river steelhead
Wilson river sea run cutthroats
Lochsa river westlope cutthroats
Missoula and the big blackfoot river, tiny rainbow trout
Gallatin river, brown trout and bears
Yellowstone, no fishing
Bighorn mountains, moose and golden trout
haul ***, find out what its like for an alternator to go out while you are driving
Wilson Lake smallmouth...
and done...

Like I said, posting all the pics would take too long, but if you have a fish porn request, I will do my best to honor it...

To all of those planning on attending the Dale Hollow get-together, I wanted to pass along this reminder that the resort we are staying at (http://www.cedarhillresort.com/index.html), will begin accepting reservations for the next year, in three days(October 1st).

I plan to reserve cabin #0 for the entire week of May 12. And just an FYI, all 3 Bedrooms have already been spoken for. I'm hoping that someone would make reservation for cabin #10 (2BR). Cabin 10 is located next to Cabin 0 and in my opinion offers the best location of all the cabin at the resort. Reason being, it's an easy walk to the Marina and restaurant, and with plenty of parking too.

I don't think that cabin 10 will last very long, so I'm hoping one of you can get it booked for the event. Thanks

Woody, do you know if they're having a "Black Friday" rate this year? The savings last year was substantial.

I was told that they will start taking reservations for the new year this monday, Oct 1. I imagine you'll be hearing from them shortly after. If not, I would give them a call.

It's to bad you're not able to attend the get-together.

If we're able to figure out a pattern, we'll pass it along.

yea.. After thinking about it, I figured that's what you meant. I sure hope you can reserve cabin 10. I'm sure someone will be able to help share the cost with you, since it's a 2 BR. It looks like it has a nice screened in porch too.. great location!

Here's a pic of cabin #0 which I will be calling on tomorrow.

Got to love the long deck for those laid-back evenings after being on the lake!

Here's a pic of cabin #10. That's cabin #0 just to the left in the pic.

The restaurant is located just to the right of cabin#10.

Cabin #10 screened in porch.

Cabin #0 and Cabin #10 are located on the upper end of the big parking area. Easy walk to marina and on site restaurant. No need to do any driving once you get here, other than into town.

How about a summary of who is staying where? And who has yet to reserve a cabin?
