Default Berkley Big Game 1/4 pound spools

Do any of you guys buy these quater pound spools in 20 lbs? You can get 650 yds for about 7 $!! Why is it cheaper, just because it's bulk, or is it a cheaper line all together?

Line is good in the 10 to 14lb range. Haven't fished the stuff any heavier than that but it is a strong strong. MONO>

A little too stiff for me, but it is good line.

its definitely stiffer than the average line...not too bad on most occasions but isn't all that fun if it ever gets pretty twisted.

I'd keep it out of sunlight if you plan on storing it somewhere. It should last ya a long time.

I hate Big game line.It is so inconsistant from spool to spool. It has way too much line memory, so if you buy it , buy a can of reel magic, or KVD stuff with every purchase of big game.It could be 5 spools for a dollar, and I still wouldn't buy it.P N J

Thats the way I feel about stren. too much memory..I fished it for years till I discovered Trilene...I guess trilene just fits my style, I know there are dozens of quality lines out there.

Put the spool in warm to hot tap water for about 5 minutes and that will lose a lot of memeory. You can take off the spool on your rod too when the mem. comes back.

Ba careful when dipping to lose memory......it's the heat that will weaken the line. Best kept in the basement or fridge for long periods.

Be careful when purchasing bulk spools of line. Some of these spools are very very old. Stores that put line on reels for anglers, tend to have many spools of line used for that purpose. When the line gets old it is sold at discount on the spool.
Test the line by rubbing your fingers up and down it: if you get a white powder on your fingers but cautious of making the purchase. Most often it is the upper poundage line that is discounted. The lower weights are used more often by anglers and the line is used up faster. The line though is old, it should still be ok for general fishing, but for the fish of a life time you may want newer line.
