dunno. havent ever caught any that big or close to it. first, the water u fish has to be capable of growing fish that big. i dont know how to answer your question. keep plugging away. that is what i am doing.

I find if I say a Hail Mary before I cast, I will catch a 10 pound bass every time. Just look straight ahead when you do it though, don't be concerned with the guy behind you.

Wish I could help ya but that would be like the blind leading the blind. I like in Illinois and we don't grow many that big. (damn winter). But I figure two fives make a ten. Right guys? Guys? Hey guys. What the heck is that laughing and where's it coming from? Hey, I took math in school....5 lbs. + 5 lbs =10 lbs. LOL.

Thats no kidding Bama and Kickbass, here in the Midwest you got to combine your catch for a chance to make 10lbs. of blackbass.

Oh yea! and before you say it, I can add quite well, thank you very much! LOL!

Living and fishing in the right place, like Rodman Rob, will make a huge difference! When I lived in Texas, I knew guys that specialized in catching big bass in Lake Fork. They spent hours and hours learning those special places that held the larger bass. There are some places that traditionally hold big bass. I agree with Rodman Rob that big baits aren't always the answer, I've seen Jig and craw combos produce more big bass on Lake Fork than any other bait out there. I've also seen a 12 pound bass caught on a 1/4 oz rattletrap too!.
Where do you live? I would be interested in the big bass potential in your area?

Everyone knows it takes time, but for those of us who are limited, here's what I normally do on Lake Monticello in Arkansas.
1. Spend every possible hour on the water from January to April, especially 3 days prior to and 3 days after a full or new moon.
2. Fish painfully slow with a jig/pig (or paca), or breakneck speeds with a deep crankbait.
3. Creek channels with a well defined channel.
4. Once you find the fish in January, stay with the creek and move up it as the weeks progress.
5. Post-Spawn: Do everything in reverse, stopping at every secondary and mainlake points along the way.
6. Ignore any fish less than what you want. If you are in a school of 5-6 pounders and they are all clones...move on. It's hard to do, but remember you only have a small window, so don't waste your time on something you don't really want.

As far as what size of bait...its gonna vary with the time of year. Remember a jig/pig is a crawfish representation when fished on bottom and it's very hard for a bass to pass up a crawfish in the winter and spring. I say that, but I have yet to catch a double digit fish on a jig, ALL of mine have come on a plastic worm anywhere from 6" to 11.5" and on various colors, but mostly black or watermelon seed. All have come of deep points or creek channels. None have come off beds. This fish in the picture to the left was dripping blood off her tail while "sight fisherman" were less than 50 yards from me and I caught her about 17' on a point. Sight fishing is not the only way or even the best way IMO to catch one. It's knowing their travel route to and from the bedding areas. Think about it, they travel to the beds twice...once going, once coming...but they're only on the bed once (usually), so if you can find their route, you have twice the chances of catching them. Plus their not stressed, spooky, or sore mouthed from all the pressure.

i really dont think that you can just say how do i catch them, they are just like any other fish its just a matter of being at the right place at the right time, i mean sure it helps a lot to have a lot of big fish but that still dont guarantee you a lunker, just keep fishin and eventually youll get one

Sacrificing a virgin to the Bass Gods may help...if you can find one older than 18. (13, if you live in Chicago, South Texas, or certain southern states.)
Speaking of that...A small town down on our southern border, Santa Marijuana, recently had to cancel their annual Parade Of The Virgins. One got sick and the other wouldn't march alone.

lately it's bean big swimbaits. Many people are telling me 8 to 10 inch baits are to big. Oh well fish do respond to them. Many times i think bass bully other species. That is the type of fight that i get. Many times these bass are no bigger or just alittle bigger than the bait.

Just a quick sidenote here.....All 9 bass that I have caught over 10lbs have been caught either at nite or just before the sun comes up! They were also all caught fairly close to shore.
