Default fritts drops bass events

david fritts has opted out of all bass events in 2006
the reason bass jumping the entry fee's and changes to the shedule. he announced that he will be fishing flw events.
fritts said that the classic being in fished late febuary puts his chances of winning in late winter at very slim... flw pays out lot better.

irwin jacobs -flw president-said"when b.a.s.s. desided to raise entry fees, limit feild sizes, and resrict logo's. making it difficult if not impossible ,for many anglers to continue their professional fishing careers." they messed up big time.

so what is your opinion??

I remember in the mid 90's when david fritts came on the scene, I think from the midwest, and he won with deep diving crankbaits, and soon had endorsements on several deep divers..the DD22 I think is one of them but don't hold me to that...I think BASS made david what he is today, and now he realizes to many young stars are HERE and he can't compete with their level. The money is a no brainer...everyone goes for the bucks, but I think he probably has better chance being a star in FLW

I don't know if BASS messed up or not, only time will tell. Regardless, they can't be happy about losing a name like Fritts. They must've breathed one huge sigh of relief when KVD decided to stay.

Fritts came on the "scene" in the early 90's won his first Classic by '94. He was endorsing the Poe's 400 and 300's extremely heavily. Back then he never said a word about normans or any plastic body baits that I can recall. All his Poe's that he used were also re-weighted to run deeper and custom painted. He was also promoting the Lew's bb-1; bb-1n reels before zebco bought them. Personally I could give a rats tail about B.A.S.S., They evidently believe the sport can't survive without them or the tackle manufacturers. Sounds like they are trying to hold up the Manufacturers up for ransom. Then again...I've read a ton of accusations that all B.A.S.S. cares about is promoting the sponsors they have and maybe it's an effort to change that attitude of the avg. reader. Who knows?, and it is worth even talking about?

I agree that the BASS has lost a lot of luster. Its not really the BASS as we have always known it. It is the big money ESPN machine being navagated by the ESPN corporate underwriters, They will gut it, destroy its basic principles and then throw it away.
I believe there will be more guys like Fritts that will leave that trail. You watch the TV and the fisherman that are on the ESPN payroll are saying how much better it will be but then we know what side there bread is buttered on .Just watch the ESPN fishing shows tommorrow and you will see 45 min of real fishing and 3 hours of BS coming from want to be's.

ZOOOOOKKKKKK WHats up buddy. Started coming out of the stuper I have been in for awhile. You know it happens wherever there is money involved. The more money the more poitical it gets. Just happens that way. Gonna make it harder for some folks to deal with but I beleive the sponsors will step up. Hey did you here that GP got sold. Koch bought out GP and now owns the whole damn thing. When I get back to work this is gonna be interesting. This should be a good thing. Have to wait and see.

Fritts used a home made crankbait prior and after the big Poes deal came through. The guy who made them was from North Carolina as Fritts was.He helped Fritts modify the Poes into a suspending crankbait by drilling and pouring lead to make them suspend.Poes later made the modified version into their classic series crankbaits which come pre modified as David made them. Can anyone tell me this mysterious persons name ?

Now that you have taken your mask off. I still don't know the other mysterious person concerning the Poes crank bait question.

Zooker, Have you ever heard of a person named Homer Biesecker ? I am not sure the last name is spelled correctly, but he is responsible for the North Carolina crankbait specialist so to speak. Fritts named the Homer color in the Poes series after him, which happens to be my favorite Poes color. P N J

PNJ! You ask these questions that are far, far above my head. I know Fritts and I know Poes, but I have never heard of this guy that got them togather. Dose that make me a crank bait with no hooks attached? Or am I fishing with no line on my reel. Anyway, it was a good question.

Bass fishermen from all over the nation have traveled to High Rock and Lexington to see why this area is known nationally as the "Crankbait Capital of the World". Well known crankbait experts such as David Fritts, David Wright, Gerald Beck, and Jerry Lohr honed their bass fishing skills on this lake and its superb supply of hard fighting bass. Homer Biesecker, a mentor of these experts, is locally known as one of the originators of deep water cranking. Homer was well known to use a crankbait that had a green back, chartreuse (yellow) sides, and an orange/red belly. Local fishermen knew that as Homer's color or just plain "Homer". David Fritts and David Wright, who were both on the pro-staff of Poe Crankbaits, recommended that they officially name this color "Homer" in honor of their tutor. Other crankbait companies soon followed suit and now also have a Homer colored crankbait.

Jb, You are chocked full of knowledge. I didn't remember hearing the other names other than Gerald Beck , but what do I know. Jb , you are a difficult person to understand. How do you come up with this stuff ? Its like you have tentacles grasping information out of the air.I think there is something to the amount of tattoo ink you have, maybe it can pick up computer transmissions from outer space. P N J

umm actually that paragraph is in numerus magazines and books.. jerry lohr is a crank bait builder of note. his cranks i can by localy-they are NOT cheap- i have heard of homer besiecker and his "color" from the older guys at work. high rock lake is a freak of nature due to it's natural lack of vegation. the water fluxuation also does not help it any. i have seen high rock down 27 feet in a rather shallow lake that is only 50+ feet deep in the very small deep hole.the combanation of these factors make the lake a struture fishermans day. the lack of weeds make it great for cranking...
this lake has stump fields, rock humps, rock ledges, miles of rip rap,and dozen's of old road beds-with bridge butments and ditches- all of which would make even the hardest fisherman drool with envy. not to mention it is one of the most consitant bass fisheries on the east coast..

Zooker, All it really takes is nitrogen in the soil for weeds to grow which their should be so I would think its another nutrient or chemical imbalance in the water that doesn't allow weeds to grow ? Some body must have the reason why, maybe JB can find the answer. You guys don't pee alot in the lake do you ? P N J

no comment on that pnj.. all i know from actually being on the lake. is there is no grass or weeds. the lake patterns basicly are trees, rocks, and docks.. in fact of the 4 lakes in the yadkin chain that i fish regularly.there is asian day flower growing which i call grass only in the lower 3. tuckertown has a lilly pad area -which some bassturd sprayed-but it is only in one creek area..

all of you who know me know i have a mostly white boat. every weekend i have to clean the mud streak off -looks more like a hard water stain-before i back the boat in the shed..
