Default Article on super tuning reels

http://super-tuning.home.mindspring.com/i1.html

Here's a great site on super tuning reels. Great for anglers who enjoy cleaning their own reels.

I found the link posted on fishin.com

That was an interesting article. I'm not sure if I buy the idea, but it was worth listening too and maybe trying on an older reel. Its funny the guy works at North Alabama outdoors, small world I guess.

I do buy it!I have a Diawa reel "don't know the model # off hand" that i had problems with right out of the box.I set it back in the box and put it on a shelf for a couple of months. One day i was have a fit with one of my older reels and my fishing buddy asked me to give it to him and he would return it the following week. When he returned it the next week, this thing was casting like a dream, further and smoother than any other reel.So I told him of the Diawa I was having problems with and gave that one to him,,,,,,,,,Next week came and now I have 2 reels that cast smoother and further than anything before or since.................He calls it tuning it!

IFBRAS0,
Here is another site you might want to visit, about cleaning and lubricating your reels with "Rocket Fuel" or "Hot Sauce!" http://www.heartlandtackleservice.com/articles.htm

Jackl,

Thanks for the link. It's a really good article. The images are actually helpful and the article is easy to read.

As far the super tuning article I posted, I'm sort of skeptical. I'm afraid of how the friction ring might be affected by grinding on it with a dremel like tool. Couldn't this possibly cause the spool to wobble during the cast?

I use hot sauce on all of the reels I clean. This includes mine and the ones for the shop. Customers rave over it. It is good stuff.
