Depends on what you are using. I use several different baits rigged weightless T-rig:

A fluke-I cast it out anw work it back with quick, gentle twitches of the rod tip.

Senko-cast it out, let it sink, and let it sit. Pull it a little, let it sink and let it sit.

Floating worm-work it with real sharp, fast twitches of the rod tip.

a paddle tail worm like a Mann's Dragon worm-cast it up on the cover I'm fishing-usually hydrilla-pull it off into the water and let is sink a little, then reel it in a little, then stop and let it sink, then repeat.

A cut tail worm like an Ultra vibe speed worm-I just cast it out and reel it back in like a buzzbait.

You cast it out, let it sink, reel in the slack, give it a couple twitches, and when you feel the weight of the fish set the hook and reel it in...

;DIf fishing weightless tube's you can fish them as you would fish jerkbait's,floating worm's.Let them drift down
them give them a slow twitch and let them drift down again. They also work great around lilypad's and on weed edge's.Good luck

I usually cast a short distance(about 10-20 feet not much)let it drop then i let it sit for a few seconds then just real in slowly.

I agree with Rebasser as usual ;D. If it's a Lizard or brush hogs or zipper worms, a slow steady retrieve will work sometimes, instead of twitches(due to the action of the bait). Let the fish tell you.
